Afternoon all. My dipped beam has gone on my USA import 400/4. I have taken the headlight apart and realised it’s a sealed beam headlight so can’t just replace the bulb. Have rung Silvers and asked about their replacement light unit but they say it won’t fit my USA headlight rim as the fittings are different. Silvers do a rim as well but I think it’s about £95. Wondering if anybody has any suggestions?

Afternoon all. I have managed to chip the paint of my newly painted petrol tank, it’s only a small chip and right near the front so don’t know it’s there without looking. Is there anything that you guys could recommend me to use to touch it up with? Thanks.

Evening all. Seem to have a puncture in my front tyre so need to remove the front wheel. Is it easy to remove the front wheel ? Any thing I should be careful about? The Haynes makes it sound easy. TIA.

Morning. I am wondering how the no:3 HT lead is supposed to be routed on my 400/4 as mine is rather scrunched up because of where the horn is. It goes behind the horn and doesn’t look quite right to me.

Today got my 400/4 back on the road. New paint by Menno, new rings and valve stem seals and a nice new silencer made by Marving.

I know Menno has been recommended lots of times but I have just received my tank and panels back from Menno after having them re-sprayed and they look fantastic! Not only is his work great but his communication is spot on as well. Would very much recommend his work.

Morning. I am getting my tank and panels ready for posting to Menno for re painting. I am having trouble working out how to get the pin things out to remove the tank cap and fittings. Do they just pull out or is it more complicated than that? Also can I re use them?

Afternoon all. I have some grungy stuff in the bottom of my brake Caliper reservoir and wanted to clean it out. I’m thinking it would be a good time to renew the brake fluid as well at the same time. I’ve looked on the internet and I think it’s within my mechanical capabilities ( famous last words). Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. Also it says to use DOT 3 but have not seen that around. Is DOT 4 ok to use? Regards, Chris.

Evening all. I have my exhaust system off my 400/4 at the moment and on closer inspection I realise the silencer is quite badly rotting near the collecter box. Also when you move it it rattles, which I’m assuming is the baffles breaking up inside. Am wondering is it worth getting the rotting part welded or braised and maybe get some more miles out of it or would the rattling noise make it unusable soon? I see Silvers make a silencer, has anybody any experience of them and would it fit my existing down pipes / collecter Box? My exhaust has Sandtek 2002 stamped on it. Thanks in advance.

Morning. Been having trouble with my 440/4 recently. Starts nicely and ticks over fine( although maybe a bit fast) but it’s very hesitant to rev below 3,000 rpm. Makes pulling away from the lights or riding in slow traffic a pain. Runs nicely otherwise. Problem only occurs when hot. Any ideas what the problem might be ? Thanks in advance.

Afternoon all. Just doing my first oil and filter change on my bike and looking at the workshop manual it is showing a set spring. No sign of it in my filter /casing. ( unless it’s pinged off somewhere! ) I’m guessing it’s needed or can I manage without?

Evening all. Sorry got another question. I’ve had my 400/4 a few months now and was wondering how much oil its normal to use? I estimate that I’ve used about 1.5 litres and riden about 800 miles. Is that about normal or have I a problem? There’s no obvious oil leak that I can see and haven’t noticed blue smoke out of the exhaust.

Evening all. Was going to wash my bike over the weekend and was wondering how to clean the engine cases. It’s sort of ingrained dirt/ oil on them. Was thinking autosol or will that scratch them?

Evening all. Have just pushed my bike into the garage after riding home from work and have noticed a clunking noise that appears to come from the front sprocket area. When I push it backwards it doesn’t make the noise at all. Any ideas what it might be? ( hope it’s not bad news🙁)

Afternoon. Probably a silly question but thought I would ask anyway. Re fuelled my bike last night in readiness for riding to work this afternoon. As I pushed my bike out of the garage put it on its sidestand and turned the fuel tap on. Closed the garage door and went back to my bike to find fuel dripping underneath the bike. Is this normal? It stopped once I started my bike up. Lovely ride into work though through Windsor Great Park and along Runnymede. Just the sort of thing I bought the bike for. 😀
