Other Bikes / to paint or not to paint
« on: January 30, 2019, 07:34:29 PM »
Hi,
I have a CB250 G5 (stop laughing) in green I have had this one for several years. it sits with my CB750 K6. Anyway i have decided to rebuild the engine as its a bit tired. I have new +50 pistons and rings the barrels off for re-bore. my question, do i paint the engine cases or leave them bare?

back in 1976 i had a G5 in green and I am sure the engine was covered in silver paint bur the outer cases including the clutch cover were polished. i bought it second hand so not sure what they were like when they left the factory.

Misc / Open / historic not QUITE well yes
« on: December 20, 2016, 01:43:38 PM »
OK so I have a 1976 K6 CB750 as some know. as it was first registered on 29/09/1976 i went to change the taxation class to historic and the PO did not have any idea how to do it, although I have done my other 4 bike at the same PO. they said I had to ring the dreaded DVLA. well I did. and the records show that my bike was indeed registered on the 29/09/1976 BUT the date of manufacture according to there records was 22/01/1977, i did ask as to how it could be registered before being made and she said it must have been a typo during first reg but she could not change the Jan date. furthermore I need to get a letter from Honda (headed paper) confirming the exact date of manufacture then and only then can i change to historic (providing 40 years have passed) or wait until Jan 2018

so how do i get the letter and who do i have to pay?

chassis number CB750 2576681
Engine number CB750E 2466238

CB750 / clutch free play
« on: July 05, 2015, 08:43:24 PM »
went for a spin  to Swansea from Gloucester today got to Newport with lovely sunny weather (12ish) then i noticed cars coming the other way with wipers on i thought prats,,,,then boom like a typhoon i was soaked to the skin with in ten mins.

any way on to the clutch when i left Gloucester i had about 10mm free play at the bars which is how I like it set up. when i got to the bridge (40 miles) it was hard to get into neutral and i had about 20mm free play. whilst driving i adjusted the thingy on the bars back to the 10mm area and all was well. the bottom adjuster was exactly where i had set it.

my question is can a cable outer shrink or the inner stretch? after the adjustment it seems fine but this is the second time i have done this. i now wind back the thingy and adjust the cable at the bottom to take out the free play.

should i get a new OEM clutch cable or could it be the clutch itself?

CB750 / jumping ...missing and backfiring
« on: March 21, 2015, 07:26:39 PM »
well,
had the spark plug repaired engine back in and started ok. but it runs v lumpy. the faster i went the better the engine pulled. at 70-80 ish no miss. below 4k misses splutters and now and then a small backfire, or pop out of the left side.

apart from the plug blowing out the bike was running great before i had the head off.

things i have checked.

timing both static and with strobe
valve clearance
carb bowl clean
checked the needle position on each carb also
timing again
new petrol (getting desperate)

it seems as if it is misfiring on the left most cylinder (sitting on the bike)

how / can i check the coil
could it be one of the condensers?

when the manual says number 1 is that to the left, is that as you sit on it or looking at it from the front? just a daft question i know but i am not sure.

« on: February 21, 2015, 07:12:15 PM »
after rebuilding my K6 i had small drops of oil (some may remember my posts)

well then as again you may remember l carried on riding an the no1 spark plug blew out. so l need to strip the head to fix this. so today out with the engine off with the rocker when I saw what was causing the v small leak.

can you spot what is missing from the breather cover.

CB750 / plug blow out
« on: September 12, 2014, 06:55:23 PM »
Well, just got used to having oil droplets now and then on the outside finns went out for a ride and POP out blowes NO1 plug. got home on 3 and replaced with new plug but will not nip up v tight. it tightens but not as much as it should. got a feeling it will pop out again.

if it does then can you get helicoils to fit? if so what size would i need please? it seems just as you start enjoying the bike BOOOOM another issue. i suppose its engine out head off as a minimum.
happy bloody days

CB750 / Oil bloody oil
« on: August 31, 2014, 08:44:42 PM »
I have done about 2K on the K6 without any problems but now after a run (about 50-60) miles i get spots of oil on the finn below the head gasket but it has not run from there. it seems to have been blown i think and its on both sides

i use a quarter of a pint of oil in 150 miles.

where is this coming from?
does this mean my head gasket is shot?

Ok so I have been caught using my wifes dishwasher with bits of my CB500T.
my question, i bought my own dishwasher for the garage would i do any harm if i put things like cylinder head (stripped obviously) has anyone tried things like a head and barrels in a dishwasher? would it warp it?
