CB350/400 / Primary chain/shaft - 400/4
« on: September 07, 2014, 02:55:39 PM »
Just fitted a new primary chain (and rubbers) on my 400/4 engine. Problem is that primary shaft doesn't line up with starter gear. :(
The gear has to move about 1/8th. of an inch to rear of engine. Is this normal with new chain? Can the gear be 'levered' back a bit?
Thought I'd ask the experts on here first. I have the engine upside down, resting on cyl.studs.
Thanks, Kenny.

Thanks for replies guys. I am looking for another/better head.
Is the cyl. head of a 400/4 the same as a 350/4 ?
  cheers, Kenny.

Agreed it is not the best of heads. Anybody know where I can find a better one? I have another head, but it is in a far worse state. :(
The camshaft has very slight marking on it. Should be o.k.   b.t.w. The marks on the l/h bearing are drips of oil.
Might tap them M7,if I don't go the helicoil way.
  cheers,  Kenny.

Hi,
Could someone please tell me if the holes marked in blue in pic,can be helicoiled o.k.  They seem very close to camshaft bearing.
cheers, Kenny.

Tried to slacken a bolt today,to remove broken cable clamp on 400F. This is what happened. :( :(
Someone in the past has tried to slacken and butchered screw heads. Will have to heat them, and try impact driver.
Have never split one of these engines. Will have to now!!  >:(

Done!! :)
If anything, I was compressing spring to much. But doesn't matter now,as they are in and seated with the help of a rubber mallet. :) :)

Bought a tank from Bitsa,a couple of months ago. It's been away getting repaired/painted,along with a pair of side panels from D.S.
Well pleased with results. :) :) Total cost £200.
