Welcome from me too.

Now time to get rid of that tax disc. They always looked ugly, even in the correct position.... unless of course it's structural!😉

Great forum for technical advice, etc.

Cheers, D.

Thanks all, and nice one John for halting the slippery slope down Rubber Wear Avenue!

Today I managed to take out both bikes on fairly salt-free roads and in lovely weather.

Hope you managed to do the same (and have now tucked it/them away in a nice snug garage/shed)!

Cheers, D.

Hi Andrew,

Welcome from a fellow 400/4 owner who joined this forum when the spanners came out to dismantle my dirty, leaky, abused old bike.

As Royhall's already said, queries usually answered in hours (or even minutes... within the time it takes to make and drink a cuppa in my experience!).

Good luck,

D.

Hi Craig,

Welcome from me too.

Mine was a dirty, oily old runner that I turned into a box of bits... and then put it back together again. But not until I'd made loads of mistakes and received much help from members of this forum.

It's a great place to learn.

Enjoy!

D.

Ha ha, good point. That's why I always fettle my bikes with my eyes shut!

Thanks all.

I was going to make some then discovered these almost helmet-shaped bells on-line.

After dismantling the chime, I sprayed the bells black then over-painted the patterns.

I have to say, I'm rather pleased with Rossi's Donkey helmet of 2009.

Cheers, D.

Hi all,

My wife loves bikes, bikers (Ok, only me, I think) and MotoGP. So I made her this for Christmas. She was delighted!

If you want to see it in action, here's my 9 second video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qwFf6ZfMXRI

With more time and smaller paint brushes I could have been more accurate, but that wasn't really the point!

Cheers, D.

I forgot to finish off this thread by saying, all sorted and working nicely.

Pretty simple job once I cleaned off all the road crap mixed with grease in and around the broken rubber boot. Truth is, I like cleaning bits of old bikes... I guess I'm not alone on this forum, eh?

During and After pics inserted for anyone interested.

Cheers all, D.

Thanks all.

Mine was ordered (43530-410-305 from DSS) before I started the work and is sitting next to me as I type, pending the next phase, installation.

Maybe my order emptied the stock... apologies to anyone else out there needing one in a hurry!

Thanks Onethumb,

I have now succeeded. It was as you both described: scrape away the old crap that gathers in there; leave soaking in WD40 overnight; dry and have another scrape; hold in the vice (gently); warm up with by butane burner(not too hot); then I used a claw hammer to lever gently in the plunger. It came away really easily, so hardly any leverage needed (thankfully).

Now for the next stage...

Cheers both,

D.
