CB750 / It's been a while, but back and have a Q
« on: June 22, 2018, 03:03:42 PM »
Hello all, not been on here for a while, been away working a lot both on mainland and overseas. Family life and all that, built another bike inbetween kids at school and work etc. So it's time to resurrect my project cb750. Can't remember where I got to, but will have to go through my inventory of parts and run through the bike again of what's left to do. The one thing which has me thinking over the last 12 plus months is my carbs, PD series for k7, gonna junk these for early k1,2,3 series carbs and fit them onto my bike, the question I have do I need to replace the inlet rubbers to early type? And also if someone has done this is there anything else I need to swap over?.

Thanks

As Roy said, the market for these bikes will go bonkers and has started going nuts. Both look very well looked after examples and in the right colours also. Personally if you can see both bikes I would and buy the best out of the two of them, as parts are crazy mad expensive and if you want top dollar when you sell its has to be original replacement parts only used on them. Buy it, leave it in warm dry place for a couple of years, ride it also To enjoy it, you won't lose money. Leave the prestigious best examples to the experts and too much money collectors for crate examples. Lovely bikes thro.

Unless your buying several bikes or parts to fill a container, then forget it. If you have a particular bike you want then I would speak to the specialists who do this every month the like of dk cycles etc and ask them how much it would be to include your bike in the consignment of importing to the uk. Yes they will ask for fees and the like, but speak with them as it would be less hassle and costs for one bike.

Only other suggestion would be to remove the rivets, then heat up the plate with hairdryer, once heated up strip some old electrical wire and use in a sawing action behind the vin plate through the glue, keeping the wire tight to the frame. May work?.

Very nice handy work, and welcome back. You need to watch how you remove the vin plate, it's soft alloy plate, I think the rivets are brass?, it's also glued on the back. I just levered mine off with care, but it still split at the ends, but it's ok. Just stuck it back on using arodite.

What's next fender?.

Been off a while also, had to have a break away from the bike as it was doing my head in and started to hate it. But back on it now so get it finished.

Good luck, if you have any Q's fire away.

CB750 / Fork seals, Honda set better than copies?
« on: July 02, 2017, 05:51:21 PM »
Have a problem with mine now, new seals from pyramid, no major scoring to forks, just normal wear but in excellent condition. Fitted seals last summer, all good fitted new rubber geaters. Now my left fork is leaking badly, noticed a small oil slick and check under the gaters and it was full of oil. Bugger. Goner have to take off and redo this again. Problem is have not been out on it yet, still completing the bike.

Are Honda seals better than others?, right fork is fine no leaks. And yes I have fitted the correct way up. Maybe use a bit of sealent next time. Trigger you have Honda set of seals for k7?

Maybe it's bent ?, how about a longer stand from another bike?, need the measure what you need or alternatively weld a wide plate to the bottom of the stand to widen the footing?.

When you rebuilt the calliper, did you replace the piston seal?. Was the piston anyway pitted or badly scored. As others have said readjust the calliper to the disc. As a precaution have you overhauled the master cylinder, maybe gummed up with dirt or seals past there best.

The top of the forks must be either grooved from previous owners removing seals with screwdrivers etc. Or your stanchions must be worn, measure the diameters of each. Don't know if there are tolerance in the manual
