Title: Wiring in headlamp 400/4
Post by: Nurse Julie on March 08, 2015, 12:17:57 PM
Hi Chaps.
I had a slight problem with the handlebar switches. Could not get horn to work all the time and no main beam up and no headlamp flasher / passing light either. Took left hand switch apart, cleaned, re sprung the springs a bit. Horn now working, now have main beam, a mystry to me as I thought that all happened on the right hand side!!. Also had spaghetti wiring out of headlamp bowl, to check connections etc. Anyways, the passing light is still not working, does it only work when engine running?.

Ta in advance

The Pa switch puts 12v on to the blue wire (which is main beam).   The engine don't need to be running, just the key turned to the on position.   It sounds like the switch isn't quite right after all that fettling

How do you know the head light flasher on the horn button worked before you started tinkering ?

I'd lest the continuity of the switch with a meter.  You can get a meter for a few quid and they're very handy for fault finding.

Yer, my local MOT centre does those sort of MOT's for us girlie bike riders. They know we don't like being out after dark, what with all these strange men around  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Questionable whether an original 400F headlight is good for anything else other than daytime in any case....  ::)
