Trouble mounting new HM 323 pipes

Hi all,

I'm having trouble making my new HM 323 pipes fit correctly on the CB500. No matter what I do or fettle with, I cannot get them to line up. The main problem being the bottom silencers are 1/2 inch off line with the balance tubes and I cannot connect them. The top ones look fine

This is what I have done and checked ...

Brackets are fitted the correct way around. New repro brackets from DSS.
Brackets fitted either side of the foot peg/frame.
System fits flush at the engine end.
System is clearing the engine and frame, not getting caught up with anything.

Anyone had any experience fitting the new repro systems and encountered similar problems? Any help greatly appreciated - this has beaten me

Right now I have with my OEM pipes and brackets. The problem is that brackets are bent somewhat due to prior assembly with both brackets by mistake on the outside. One of the 8 studbolts at the enginehead is already useless meaning its hole needs a helicoil or something. Yep, followed his advice. It's a great thread. But no matter what I do, I cannot get things to line up. 😕

I think you will find that the pattern brackets supplied are not bent 100% same as originals and need a mild bit of massaging to get the pipes to fit, when I did mine years ago I could not get the stubs completely in line but settled for close enough to get the joiners on

Is it normal to have exhaust fumes leaking from the muffler studs that connect to the exhaust brackets?

Would you expect it from a brand new set of pipes though? 😐

On a repro set, Yes. But, I don't think James has had any problems with fitting these pipes.

I've fitted 5 sets of these to-date with no issues..all were with the original Honda brackets (refurbished)..

This must be where things are going wrong. 😕 Don't suppose any of you fine gentleman have a set laying around that I could compare with?
