WIRE SIZES - ADVICE NEEDED BY A NON ELECTRICAL, NON EXPERT, NON GURU PLEASE

Hi Chaps.
I need to make up battery leads for my CB550 custom project. I'm looking in the Vehicle Wiring Products catalogue and I'm not sure what amp cable I need and I'm not sure, for example, what 25mm2 means. I can understand the OD measurement of the cable.
I have also been looking at the battery / starter ring terminals but also again, I'm not sure what I need. Can anyone advise me please.

Best take an old cable to a car spares place and ask for a "foot of that and the crimps to go with it"

Thanks Ash. Now I am totally confused though as you say that 25mm2 is about 100 amps but in my wiring catalogue it says 25mm2 is 170 amps. I think Trigger has a crimping tool, it's called a vice 😊 😊
Soldering won't be a problem as he's good at that. But, until I can get my head around what I need in the way if cable, I'm totally stuck.

Yep, agree totally Ash. If I were to get all technical about the electrical system of the human body, I doubt anyone on here would understand what I'm talking about but, to me it's extremely simple and i  understand it fully. Therefore I have changed the title of the thread.

Don't forget our founder has a degree in electrical engineering so if an an 'expert' answer is made all waffly on here then he is shot down as not knowing what he's talking about.

Actually it was Electronic Engineering Ash, but I did once design a VHF transmitter that drew 250A at 36VDC...

We used welding cable Julie. It was about an inch in diameter and super flexible. It was also over 30 years ago …

Dear Julie,

I will try and keep the answer non 'technical

As Ash says, obtain some new 25.00mm stranded cable. Then ring around your local Electrical Wholesaler/factors, and ask if they have any 'Galvanised non-insulated Ring tube terminals, Size M6-25mm.  Then enquire if they also have the 25mm crimp tool (they normally hire then out on a day rate)

Once they answer yes to both questions, put your nurses uniform on, take the cable with you, and then buy the terminals at the trade counter...then ask the man to demonstrate the use of the crimp tool on your cable & crimps...Nurses uniform is required for this bit...no hire charge!

Thank you Al, that's exactly what I needed to know. I understand every single bit if that. And yes, I am not adverse to putting on the Nurses uniform to get things done, it has worked on many occasions in the past and hopefully will do for this little job. Thanks again.

I did that in a hire shop; got them to demo the cutter on a few tiles,  then asked him to do the rest.   

The nurses uniform worked a treat.
