Insurance time again and its gettnig harder ..................

Oh I hate this annual bash !!!

Last year my 16 Yamaha Tracer and the Four were £153 with Hastings

Now Hastings, Bennets and others will not cover the Four as they say its classification has changed to an AB7 or something

Carole Nash quoted me £323 for both which is more than 2X what I Paid last year

I can get 2 separate quotes at £105 on the Tracer with Hastings and then a further £124 for the Honda with Footman James but prefer to have both on same policy

Any recommendations anyone I hate having to go through this nightmare every damn year

Called Swinton and they quoted £105, I  mentioned your policy price and they said "we have never quoted a policy at a price as low as that !!!!"

They then quoted me £474 to include my '16 reg Tracer which I can get for £105 with my exisiting insurer (Hastings)

Clearly I am being bulled by Swinton here since your policy clearly exists

God I hate this trawling around its worse than energy suppliers and that is really saying something

Oh yes, it definitely exists, I have 2 other bikes insured with them too, the CB400/4 and the CD250u, both fully comp, only paid £69.00 each for them. The CB400/4 policy also gives me 3rd party cover on anyone else's bike as well. I deal with a great lad there called Dale.
I have just re insured the Yam 600 Thundercat, not with Swinton but another and I paid £69.91 fully comp for that. I got ripped off there by .91p 🤨🤨🤨

Both my bikes are insured with Bennetts at the moment but I shop around at each renewal. They are on separate policies, one runs April to April the other June to June. The Triumph carries my full NCD and is £81, fully comp. The Honda has no NCD and is £94, fully comp., however this is not an agreed value but I will be looking into this at next renewal.

As I say, I shop around at every renewal and I do this for the cars, the bikes, the house insurance, the broadband, the gas and the electric. I just accept now that any renewal quote I am sent, can be bettered by a quick look on any of the comparison websites. 

Your premium very much depends on where you live, your age, your driving record, your claims record, your job, whether you commute or not. I’m sure you know this but it means it’s not so easy to compare your quotes with others.

Paul Baker, is there something you're not telling us 😀😀😀 I have just done a quote on line with Bennets for the CB550/4 and it came back at £87.09 fully comp. So they are still covering our bikes.....maybe they know something about you we don't 🤨🤨🤨. [ Guests cannot view attachments ]

Try Lynbrooke insurance. My bikes are off the road whilst self employment and kids mean money needs to go elsewhere but up til a couple of years ago I was paying £120 for 5 bikes including the 500/4 sidecar and a few r90/6 sidecar outfit with a list of modifications as long as your arm and 2 other named riders on any of the 5 machines. All classics (over 15 years old) when I added my Ntv 650 when I bought it they appologied for the extra charge of £11.97 for the 9 months cover. I found them excellent to deal with and premiums only ever went up by roughly the rate of inflation so never worth shopping around. Me and my wife had poor service off Bennets though that was now over a decade ago. Carol Nash I used to like but they got very awkward when bough out by another company, refused to cover the Bmw without an engineers report to verify the new engine was installed correctly, because it was all of 100cc bigger despite the identical layout down to interchangeable parts.

Its nearly impossible to compare  insurances as every body is different, occupations and postcodes even if only a few streets difference can make massive differences in premiums. I would guess Julies postcode and occupation + gender and age must be one of the best in the country. It all plays a large part.

I like that Moorey, I didn't think I had much going for me being a 57 year old female nurse bike rider living where i do but now you put it like that, I will now see it as a positive 😀😀😀 Also, I do declare my speeding conviction but that doesn't increase the premium at all. The strangest thing though is that Trig's quotes are exactly the same price as mine, at both this postcode and his old postcode in Milton Keynes. I think you get to a certain age where the insurers see you as such a low risk, the premium stays low. Stranger still is the premium for the Honda CD250u is the same as the 600 Thundercat, one does 70 flat out the other does 154 flat out. Absolutely no logic at all.

My premiums went up £10 per bike added regardless of if it was a 125 rebel worth £300 or a tuned up bmw 1000cc worth £2500.

I have used Carol Nash since 1991. They were always very good until they were taken over and then the premiums kept going up. The worst move I made was selling a 2007 Triumph Sprint ST and buying a 2003 Blackbird, my premium doubled. When I sold the Blackbird and bought the 1999 VFR they tried to increase the premium still further!
I called the renewals team and spoke to a really helpful advisor who reduced my premium by 50% for being a valued customer.
Morale is, don't take the first quote, question them or better still, call them back a while later, tell them you have a better quote (even if you don't) and the original quote will reduce. I know a lot of people who have done this.

No it is difficult to fathom out.
But what both have in common is both are equally capable of killing someone else or writing off some high price supercar in a accident. What you also will find out is as you get older your premiums will start to increase again because of your age.
Anyone moaning about the cost of premiums just needs to talk to a tenager about it, and you will come away with a smile on your face.
