The springs function is fairly important, a temporary fix can be made by stretching it, is long term best to replace it.

Ok. All fixed but I need to adjust the fixed pad with the screw adjuster. I don't have a spacer or feeler or whatever the dammed gadget is called. What should the space be and any suggestions around the problem.

I'm pretty sure the method is to turn the screw out until there is resistance to the wheel turning, then adjust the screw in half a turn or so until the wheel turns freely.

Don't forget to tighten the locknut, making sure the screw doesn't turn at the same time!
