Ignition switch wires
«

Hello all, my CB550f1 had wiring problems, almost finished now but there was no plug on the wires to the ignition switch, wires just pushed on the terminals and had fallen off !
Found a correct plug -
Can someone show me the wire layout for that 6 way plug ?
2 rows of three, one middle one missing
2 brown, brown/white, black and red.
Don't want to melt anything with a short !
Regards all, Terry.

Whereabouts in E. Yorkshire are you from? Why not introduce yourself and tell us bit about your biking history? There are a few of us on here from E.Yorks and also an ex-Hull man now living in Orkney.

OK, I live in Hull, an arthritic 73 years old and a Honda fan since 1962 when I was saving up to buy a CB72. £250 new, an impossible dream at 15, got as far as £20 and bought a Norton 500 Dominator !. Had many Brit bikes over the years , still have a 1973 T100 Triumph, a T150 Trident , a Royal Enfield Constellation and a Norton F1 Sport.
Bikes in use - a CB250 Superdream for shopping the T150 and a VFR750FS I have had for 24 years. Recently sold an RC30 and an RC45 , sad to see them go but something had to give to pay the bills. The CB550 is going to be the ideal main bike as big stuff is getting too heavy now.
Also have a CB77 I bought some 25 years ago, took it to bits - it's still in bits. I have masses of C92 and C95 Benly bits with 4 rust free frames with V5's. Two C72 Dreams , also in bits. I think something's got to go ! I have classic cars too and an old lorrry I've had 36 years.
Petrol head, me ?
Looking forward to being out and about on the 550, nearly ready. The locals will know it, it was Clive Brooks' old bike.
Regards all, Terry.

As this is the SOHC forum, I'm ashamed to say I forgot to mention I had a 400/4 F2 some 35 years ago, immaculate, a red one, used it for a daily work commute of 52 miles. I also had a 750/4 about 6 years ago, one of the most pleasant bikes to ride I ever had. Sadly, back problems were already setting in and I found it to be too heavy to move around at home.
Hopefully the CB550 will be a keeper and I'll get the CB77 sorted for future use.
Honda's rule OK !
Regards all, Terry.

I sure have - a D Super 5 from 1973. Lovely old thing, but I have to say that, it turned into a 3 year restoration !
How have you put 2+2 together ?

Thanks to help from two forum members, I've now got the ignition switch plugged in again. The wiring was a shambles, wrong headlight, no side light, no front stop switch wires and , eventually, confused by a Br/W that was broken internally and a soldered loom internal black wire that had parted. Rear indicators refusing to work finally tracked down to the earth wires on the frame holders not contacting 'cause of corrosion of the ally rivets holding the wires on.
Phew !
Hope that's it, soon back on the road !
Regards, Terry.

Something did beat me, the brown and brown/white wires. I could'nt find anyway of having the park position on the key separate from the side lights. Whatever I tried, one puts the other on 'cause it's the same bulb s !
In the end, I gave in and omitted the park facility. I'm not going to leave it anywhere at night with the lights on anyway.
If someone has a solution, I will gladly accept how thick I can be !
Regards all, Terry.

Probably has to do with US and other models. If you really want to know, you may want to consult the wiring diagrams in the Owner's manual:
http://www.honda4fun.com/pdf_libretti/550/550F_76/librettoCB550F_76_4.pdf
The wiring diagram of the -A model you will find in that other Owner's manual:
http://www.honda4fun.com/pdf_libretti/550/550_77/libretto550_77_3.pdf
.
But I never use the P function.
