Nearly there

Well I thought you all might like to see some pics of my progress so far. The bike was an ebay buy and alot rougher than I first thought once stripped down. The bike has been completely rebuilt and painted, apart from the motor which was ok. The first pics are as I bought it in its horrible burgundy guise. The tank and panels have been done in basecoat and orange metal flake(blast from the past !!!). I don`t like the stripes I have put on the tank so have some originals coming and will redo the entire tank again when the weather picks up a bit. Hope you enjoy and will post some better ones in the daylight. Up till now I have spent about 2 1/2 months on the resto.
Cheers,
MartinH

This is how i have done it before on my 750, start with stand, spring etc off the bike, attach the c shaped plate to the lug on the frame & attach the spring to it, then attach the the other end of the spring to the centre stand, now you should be able to hold on to the stand and pull on it to line the holes up with the frame for the stand spindle and push it into place
job done just tighten everything up
cheers Mick

This may be an urban myth but...
Open up each "link" of the spring with a flat bladed screwdriver and insert a penny. slip the "extended" spring over both retainers and then remove pennies with a pair of pliers.
I think this came from .net but I don't remember who...

Well Steve I am impressed. The spring thing worked a treat, only I used washers not rich enough to use pennies(spent all of them on my bike
)

Really nice job that. I always liked the 500. Are the exhausts available now?

Yes, you can buy individual or full sets from David Silver.

As Steve said, yes the exhausts and brackets are available from Silvers. They were an absolute pig to fit, the two small link pipes are too short in my oppinion and they are out of alignment. Just had to make the best of a bad job by modding the brackets and fiddling around.
Has anyone else had this problem?

Where are you getting the tank stripes from. I've bought a set from Dave Silver but am not impressed and could do with a better set.

Those are the ones I have. I was as unimpressed as you, but it seems thats the best available, without getting them specially cut. Are the lines on yours all shapes, as if they were done freehand??
KnK in the states do some but they look like they are the same thing.
