Another good day with the first start up after both carbs and engine fully stripped / rebuilt, and a new Boyer installed. Hooked the carbs up to a small tank, full choke, full throttle (my norm way of starting) and bloody hell, it started and ran immediately - within 1 sec of cranking. The only adjustment needed was about one turn of the master idle screw to get the idle about 1000 rpm.
Tomorrow will strobe set the Boyer to spec, apply decals and transfer tank / side panel badges to Menno’s freshly painted Body set.

No Ted… I hadn’t even considered it! My greatest concern would be dragging any small grit particles across the paintwork - how does this ‘system’ avoid such damage?

And what the hell is waterless coolant 😂? Intrigued…

Strangely enough the Waterless Cleaners are some sort of specialised sufactant probably using nano technology - when you spray on the cleaner it gets under any gritty particles and lubricates them so you can just wipe it off with a clean microfibre cloth without scratching the paintwork. That said I never used it on really muddy vehicles but worked well on normal summer & winter dirt. I will use it on my 400 to avoid introducing water. Aldi sold some a couple of years ago but it was not as good as the better ones. 

It isn't cheap and you get what you pay for as there are a variety on the market - Iirc it's come from the USA. Lots of haters but ideal imho to clean little used bikes and avoiding rust.
When I was in the car trade a firm was selling it to some Mercedes retailers in the UK a few years back.

Formulation is around 85% ethylene glycol with other components to make the total mix. That's for the "Evans" titled product.

Ed China used on a Triumph Stag as I recall, which perennially suffered from cooling compromise for users insistent in running them without antifreeze or corrosion inhibiting mix. They have a bad reputation for such a simple anomaly that could have been competently avoided with decent coolant.

Tips please for getting a tank badge off the old K2 tank. The first popped off surprisingly easily; the second is anchored hard both ends. I’ve not yet squirted anything down the back, but given the expense of these things coupled with it being the 13th of the month 😂 I’ve walked away for now.

Plastic knife or fishing line

Fishing line everytime, no chance of any dents or scratches. I even use it to cut off badges that are stuck on cars with foam sticky. A little sawing action and off they pop, and you can reuse them after, unlike when you try and lever them off.

Thanks Bryan/ Ken…. went the ‘line route, and as was about to give up due fear… it popped. Result!

Timed the Boyer Ignition today, and used #4 plug…. was amazed to see all 4 numbers hovering about the ADVANCE mark, ie 1/4 superimposed over 2/3. Scratched my head, only to read in the instructions…. “With this system all spark plugs spark at the same time, but only the cylinder under compression will fire”.

This means that my plugs will be firing 2x / revolution; twice as often as a 2 stroke! Anyways, does this directly translate into spark plug life being halved?

Servicing the fuel tap today, and was initially concerned how the feed tube slopes aft - thought I’d somehow bent it. (Never noticed this before!). This forced me to examine it a bit more closely, whereupon I noticed it was cracked over its full length. How on earth would that happen???

Anyways, as luck would have it I had brass tubing ‘in stock’ and got the old piece out (eventually) with side cutters at its base & levering. The replacement piece now happily in its new home…

Putting new brake pads in today, and asking why there are no spring washers stipulated for the main caliper bolts (#22)? If there’s a couple of bolts I don’t wanna come undone these two would be toward the top of the list…
