Very interesting link Nigel .. thanks for posting. I wonder what happened to the very early Z1 he initially modified?

Seems he was born in Fukuoka where Chris, my 'Man-In-Japan' lives (he's an ex-pat Brummie though) I think his wife was born there though.

In the early days the CB750 cam chain seemed fragile when raced,

Did Honda modify it for later models?

And did later sohc bikes like the 500 series and 400 range differ in chain management?

CB750 camchain tensioning arrangement almost exactly the same setup as the 1968 introduced CB250/350K ..500 &400 '4s had a totally different slipper blade arrangement  (as did the CB250/360G5, which had early recalls on the cam-chain tensioners). Others will probably know better than me but you never seem to hear of horrid 500/4 camchain problems and the parts on my engine with 20k miles looked pretty wear free when I stripped it but i replaced them anyway inc. the chain

I got wrapped up in reading this so much that I got a bollocking from the Mrs, apparently we were meant to be going somewhere.

I was interested from two perspectives - firstly when I bought my Z1 I watched the official movie of the record breaking at Daytona (it’s on YouTube).

Secondly, the CB750 K0 I bought from Sports Motorcycles had a Yoshimura cam and exhaust. Maybe there was more, I never had the engine apart, but I got a receipt for the cam with the bike, and the logo was on a plate fixed to the so called silencer. My Mum reckoned she could here me coming ages before I actually showed up. I reluctantly got rid after getting pulled by plod more often than was healthy for my license, I don’t think the noise could have helped.
