1972 500 K1 question?

My engine starts & runs without using the choke but stalls without some throttle when cold. Is there supposed to be a fast idle system as the engine does not speed up with a small amount of choke?

Nope, too old and agricultural for that Ted, the high idle is the silver thumbscrew on the rh side of carb bank operated by your right hand mate

Unless you have a 550K3 of course where the plastic pull-up choke lever on the handlebars results in 3000rpm tickover.

Mine did anyway.

Oddly enough Bryan I've been using that screw to keep it running - as it warms up I have to turn it down again. I was thinking I'm cheating doing this!

It's unrestored though Bryan had the carbs restored about 12-18 months ago so standing obviously does them no good.
At present I just want to test drive the bikes gearbox before the strip down starts.

At the moment I'm plucking up the courage for the test ride as soon as it's safely off the bike ramp - gawd I am feeling old today!
As I try to take it off the centre stand it just slides along the ramp instead - for safety I'll need my younger brother to help me as I'm not strong enough to do it on my own - bugger.lol

Ted why not think about one of those ramps which hold the front wheel in place, you push the wheel against it and it sort of rocks over and holds the bike upright, to remove all you do is wheel it backwards. You can fit them on the end of workbenches.

The bike ramp is great to save my back during strip down except when I need to get the bike off as one side is close to the garage wall it's easy to loose balance. As you know once a bike starts to pass the centre of gravity only Superman can save you!

Good variety of options amongst the links thanks everyone who replied.
I think I need to work out more - moved the bike off its centre stand whilst astride the bike to move it outside - took three rocks forwards to get it over the pivot point.

Then tried & failed to pull it back on the centre stand. Gave up and used the side stand for now. Not sure if I'm just turning into a weakling  or because the rear hasn't got the usual grab handle but has the frame loop thingy.
