Interesting Roo, I tend to plate at a constant current rather than a constant voltage.....

If the resistance in the solution remains pretty constant then as V=IR then either constant voltage or current has the same outcome?

This is a neat 500 restoration in the USA.

Reading a little more, constant voltage is better once you have sorted out decent plating. Once you get a nice shiny item using constant current then the voltage reading is the voltage to go for. Setting the voltage, the current will set itself accordingly. I may go this way in the future. (This is the way production firms do it as the amount being plated can vary )

ssems to work  treat for me Matt andmeans I dont have to faff aboput doing millionsof surface area calcs and the like. If I put more than I need to on the wires and the voltage drops as a result, I just tweak it up to around 1.1-1.2V and its been brilliant and this is my 5th batch through now, including the 400 bits last year.

Er I think Norton and Thevenin superposition theory is relevant here. Constant current sources have little respect for voltage…..V=IR is also limited in its application where high reactance values are present. I could go on and often do, but not this time. Constant current is the key. I’ll repeat what my College Professor of physics used to say….”forget the theory, use what works”.
