As a footnote, when BR was at the test track they undertook the famous nuclear flask test where they drove a diesel train carrying a nuclear flask into a solid concrete block, the concrete block was still there when I left in 2017, it was too big to break up!  I was told the test itself was (or should have been) conducted in private with just BR, the Govt and British Nuclear Fuels present however the farmer who owned the land next to the test track built a small grandstand and charged the general public a fee to watch it!
Thanks for the tip off Dave, rather fun! It can be seen by all because it is on youtube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1mHtOW-OBO4

I took the Interceptor out today for my first proper ride on it since picking it up on Thursday. I know its not a Honda but it is still a SOHC!
I've got to say it rides really well with plenty of go for only 46BHP. I thought it may be a bit gutless compared to a Viffer but not at all although I didn't take it on the motorway where it probably would feel a bit down on power but that would defeat the point of it, its an A and B road bike really.
The build quality is really impressive and although it is still only 4 years old nothing has tarnished, flaked, come loose, peeled or cracked. The chrome on the tank is very deep and the hand lining is old school quality. It certainly handled the Chequers Bends, my usual testing swevery with ease.

It's a sobering thought I could have bought a new RE 650 for what I've spent on my 500!

That tank looks superb.👍👍👍

No Ted, you could have bought the RE650 and still have loads of change left over :o.
I paid £3600 for mine, four years old, genuine 2,500 miles on the clock, full service history still in immaculate condition and I bought it to use no matter what the weather :D. I've seen them for sale at £3k (as Cat N).
My mantra after the problems with Ratty on Friday is 'Ride them, don't spend all my time working on them'.
BUT..........The RE650 is not a Honda sohc with all the charisma of the Honda so it's horses for courses as Dickie Davies used to say on the ITV7 ::)
I only bought the RE becuase the wife said 'Why don't you get yourself another bike' :o. I've always been told for the sake of married harmony NEVER question your wife, so I didn't, I just did what she told me (for once) ;D
