.
Appears to be not just the 400 ones Julie loads of similar coloured packaging for Honda 500 & 750 as well as on e-bay.
Looks to be the period packaging colours before plastic bags & sticky labels took over..

I put the photo up as there was some previous banter about the value of such boxes - I'd forgotten I took this photo so I put it here for comment.
Julie seems to be saying only 400 pistons & rings were boxed like this. Listings on ebay seems to contradict her comment.

All honda pistons and rings were boxed like that, there was even a "secret" part number that got you a complete piston kit.
Only small parts were in bags and occasionally they came in 10's

I was talking about the part number Ted 😂😂😂😂😂
But, theses are also NOS boxes from a different era, not all NOS parts come in red boxes.

I do not recall bar codes being used on individual parts packages 1960 & 1970s outside of warehouse tracking so presumably the boxes in your photo are from a later decade. Those boxes certainly do not look 50 years old. I suspect the proliferation of bar codes began when hand held scanners became affordable in the distribution chain.
When I worked as a youngster in a vehicle parts department the old parts books were replaced with Microfische Viewers. One slip of the hand would move the page being viewed from accessories to chassis.lol

I distinctly remember bar codes being a very innovative topic on tomorrow’s world. Showing my age!🤪

I remember that very segment Johnny. Prince Charles was invited in by the show to give an innovation award and the bar code technology won it. To celebrate they used the equipment to put a perfect bar code on the head of a pint of Guinness using the laser!

According to Mr Google Bar Codes were invented in 1948 first used to track Rail Cars in the USA!
I suspect they did not really take off until Computers moved from the old ICL puch cards to keyboard input. I certainly remember the days when a computer would occupy a whole floor of a corporate building. Wow how far we have progressed is amazing.
