Rear footpeg bar color?

Was the rear footpeg bar originally painted or was it plain metal as per the DSS pic, below?  Mine looks almost like it was brass and then painted but now much of the paint has worn off and it looks decidedly shabby. (I'm referring to the end of the bar that is visible with the rubber in place.)

I think they're probably originally galvanized or zinc coated.

Mines worn through the coating and I just sprayed them silver grey. But I suppose you could have them re-galvanized or zinc coated.
Plenty good tips on this forum to help with that process.
