Sunday at Rykas
« on: June 19, 2024, 10:35:37 PM »
For anyone who frequented Rykas at Box Hill in the late 70’s/early 80’s this will bring back some memories. Some really nice Honda's, Kawasaki's and Laverda's.
The place used to be mobbed on Sunday's before heading down the A24 towards Worthing.
The music on the video is really good as well.
Ahh.....those really were the good old days😁

A lot of what look like period special effects in the film - more like a series of stills joined up to create a video - gives you a flavour of what it was like.

This is a neat 500 restoration in the USA.

I think the film has been really well made using the still photography and the music to give the impression of speed.
I remember the place so well, it was were I first saw a Laverda Jota in the he flesh and running rather than in magazines and at bike shows where they were always stationary.

I can imagine it must invoke memories from the time - I recently came across an old video of Derby Charter Celebration circa 1954  that jump started my memory even though I was only 6 at the time and had only lived in the permanantly UK since 1953.

At first I wasn't sure about the format, but with giving it a more relaxed viewing  :) I don't  hink they've captured it well, especially from still image stock.

I always want more time to study each of the images as they contain such detail, initially frustrated that they pass quickly, but then appreciate that the sequences being from still image then realised it was either shot like that or coincidentally they realised that it could make effective moving record.

Quite clever really.

I first rode a Jota over that way, picking it up for a friend as I was insured, located south of Dorking on A24  :)

Notice it was on Technicolour too, their motion picture laboratory was originally over on the bath road north side of Heathrow that did all the facsimile rolls for cinema projection. My dad worked there after he left technical college as first job.

Good find Dave.
