As above....

Trying to learn.....is there a link on here to the "steps that you take"

Its difficult to explain but no matter what i try to get to balance one of them - it always tends to knock the others out then at the same time you end up raising the rev limit at the same time...

If say for example i adjust carb1 - it can knock out the other 3...adjusting one of the other knocks out the other ones....at the moment even with the guages to me its seems to be literally guess work on what to adjust...

Are you using the 4 dials balancer?

If so, get the tank off,
Have you done the tappets, timings?

Ok,have you got a remote fuel supply?

Fit the brass tubes, and connect the rubber tubes, taking care to line them up,

Start the bike, warm it up,

Let it tickover,

All 4 needles are probably flicking wildly, use the damper valve to reduce the individual movements,

Now pick the cylinder that the needle is furthest out of sync,

Adjust it till it gets closer,

You may need to do this over and over, with different carbs, till you get a good result,

Don't worry about the readings,

Just try to get the needles in roughly the same position,

Have fun

Cheers sir - back in the house but back out later on! - thanks for the info!
Edit...righty had a chance to read through....im right up to the point of actually the adjustments....

after a couple of hours of twiddling....the only kind of constant i could get was (and id read this on the net somewhere) to get the tickover set to 3k and balance there...now at this point i had a reasonably good result but when i brought the ticker backdown to about 1/1.5k the levels were out...

Is that right?

Went for a run round the block....still not right but a bit better...the only notable thing is the fact that when i shut the throttle off, it doesnt come back to tickover very quickly....kind of comes down gradually...also when pulling away it bogs down so i have to give it more beans to get it going..

Ideally set the tickover at 1,200,

Only this will give a reliable result

Did you start off with a good bench synch?
My 400 runs fine on a bench sync only.
I did mine using a very small drill bit shaft - it was an odd sized drill 3/32 iirc.
Using a gauge will not improve results if there is any air getting onto the intake system between cylinder hard and carbs.

I favour the smaller gap on the sliders - in my head it reduces any hanging idle issues.
