Speedo and rev counter face colour.
« on: July 29, 2024, 12:45:49 PM »
Hi
Can anyone tell me what the colour of the instrument faces should be for a 1975 550 K1, the ones that are fitted are a sort of blue colour and quite faded. The new faces I have found for sale are mostly green. The info I have found seems to say that face colour was changed around the time of my bike from dark green to light green. From the frame number I would say mine is a relatively early K1 and built late 1974 ready for sale in 75.  Of course during its 49 years of life before I got it the instruments could have been swapped, I am just trying to get it back to mostly standard.
Thanks for any info.

Both Nippon Seiki and ND gauges were fitted 550k1. It's very difficult to determine the original colour of the faces and it's only when a dial face screw is removed that the original colour is revealed. www.cb750faces.com supply new faces and those are shown on their website Maybe the replacement faces are not exactly the same colour as the original but at least gauges will both be the same.

Thanks
Good tip about correct colour being under a face screw. I just don’t know if the clocks are the original from the bike.  Did the 550 K0 have blue faces on the clocks?
Anyway like you say with new faces even if not quite original colour at least both the same and unfaded.  My bike is from USA so as you can imagine quite faded.

[ Guests cannot view attachments ] For U.S. bikes the K1 had  dark green faces. The '76 had light green. The K0 not mentioned.
The '77 550F had dark blue faces.

Thanks for that Rascal, your book also shows that for some reason my bike has a K0 paint job, but as it is Flake Sunrise Orange which is such a great colour I’m not complaining.
