New here this afternoon. Just to say hello to everyone, and a huge thank you in advance for all the advice and help coming my way. Hopefully riding 400/4, 1977. Had it when i was 17, been passed through the family, and i now have it back, 40 years later. Have not long had her back, been restored and rebuilt, i have to say not by myself. But still having problems with the carbs. So i am reading and watching videos, as to where i start. Bit nervous, but got to start sometime.

Welcome to the forum Flatspot. Congratulations on being reunited with your old 400 after 40+ years. I was reunited with a 400/4 I first saw over 42 years ago and finally got to buy last year.
400 carbs are fairly straightforward to work on but require meticulous internal cleaning of the various passages if they are to work correctly. First thing to do is to buy a set of Viton O-rings from Nurse Julie on here and to buy (or borrow) an ultrasonic cleaner with some carburettor cleaning fluid from Allendale to use with it if you cannot clear the flat spots by tuning/balancing.
Before you go stripping the carbs check the valve clearances, ignition timing, air filter and the condition of the fuel.

Welcome back, and quite amazing that it was kept and made its way back to you.

I was a bit afraid of disassembling my carbs to do a full service. My bike had a symptom that felt stuck at specific rpm and couldn't get a proper sync. As I had decided to wait for winter, I've just been running it "Italian tune up" style and for my surprise, after more than 1 month stopped, the issue is gone \o/. So I will do a proper balancing now and see, might not need to open the carbs...
