New grips don’t look right.

Just fitted new handlebars, new grips and new switch gear.
Should there be a gap between the left hand side grip and the switch gear?
Looks a bit odd to me.
Only thing I didn’t do was to remove the black plastic end caps of the new bars, but even with those off there would still be a gap.
Grips were genuine Honda ones.

The gap shouldn't be that big Steve. Have you fitted wider bars? Are they Genuine Honda grips?

Bars are supposed to be 550F bars, grips are genuine.
I can probably get them closer by maybe 4mm if I remove the plastic caps that are in the ends of the bars.

If you have your old bars - measure the distance between the switch locating lug hole and the end of the bars for comparison.

I had the opposite situation on my 500 as my throttle tube was cracked I needed new grips & the throttle tube.
Ken gave me a tip about fitting CB1300 units as the throttle tube comes with the grip fitted plus its about 12% less rotation of the throttle as the diameter/leverage is different & cheaper than the 500 ones.

I'm pleased with how they fit except it leaves a gap at the bar end that I now quite like the look of.

I would remove the rubber caps, they are probably just there to protect in transit.  Then, can you not cut off the excess from the end of the bar if you cannot move the switch to meet the rubber?

Are the bars genuine Honda bars, if not I guess that’s the problem, cut a bit off them, it will be ok and you will be able to get through narrower gaps when filtering. BTW Take the cuts from each end, not the middle 😂. Sorry couldn’t help that.

The caps are to prevent the bars going through the grip if it's contacted in some way. Also to try and prevent you reaming your own kidney or spleen should you get into and argument with your own motorcycle 

Its a more recent thing with H&S and all that.

Many MTB bars come marked with cut line dimensions printed on them for "preferential" cutting to desired width. Just put the bungs back in after cutting normally, then slap the  grips on.

Just put some repro 500 bars on mine with Honda grips and have similar gap after taking the end caps off. I can live with it for the time being but will revisit later.

Just removed the grips again and removed the bungs.
Refitted the grips and it looks much better, not sure if there should be any gap at all but it’s way better than it was.

Yes that looks better, generally there is virtually no gap, what’s it like on the twistgrip side.

Twistgrip side had a gap of about 4mm. I carefully cut about 3 mm off the end of the throttle tube as it was a bit damaged anyway. Now it looks good with no gap.
