eBay fees
« on: October 01, 2024, 02:55:51 PM »
Just got a message from eBay saying you can now sell with no transaction fees. Excludes motorcycles but not so sure about parts. Anyone know?

Online retailer eBay has scrapped fees for private sellers across almost all of its categories as it attempts to keep fast-growing rivals such as Depop and Vinted at arm’s length.

The move means eBay’s UK sellers no longer have to pay transaction fees, except for cars, motorcycles and other vehicles.

In April this year, eBay removed fees for private sellers of pre-owned clothes, and the company said it was “now evolving the experience even further”.

The site said ditching seller fees for fashion had already led to a double-digit increase in listings for popular items such as jeans, shirts and dresses, while at the same time keeping items out of landfill.

The move comes amid increasing competition from rival platforms such as Depop and Vinted.

Yes, that's correct. No listing fees on the 1st 100 items listed each month but you should still get charged a selling fee on the sale price + post + 30p + the regulatory operating fee. Let's try it though, shall I buy your item and see what happens?

Wow, if that's the case, it's really going to help a seller like myself, it's been about 18% total selling fees, unless I use the 80% off selling fee promotion. It's strange because I've always been offered the 80% discount offer every other week, on a Friday but, it hasn't been offered for 1 month now, maybe the intro of this new scheme is the reason why.
I'll look at the costs on my next sale with great interest.

Mmmm, does that include car and bike parts and accessories though, or any listings under those 2 categories, I hope so.
Strange how Ebay have just bought this in, what with them having to submit all the sales figures of the likes of myself to HMRC annually 🤔🤔🤔. It's will my life a lot easier actually as I don't have to do the accounting for my self emoyed tax return now, ebay will just send me a figure of the sales, I deduct the all the costs and hey presto, all sorted 😁😁😁

Put yer feet up .. grab a big glass of red and enjoy the savings Julie !

Here was my listing category screenshot.

Problem might be if you list over 30 items per year though.

Not sure what triggers ( ;D ) you to be deemed a business seller.

The 30 item listing is the HMRC part of it Ash.

'eBay will pass on data to HMRC automatically if you're selling 30 or more items a year OR have total earnings over the equivalent of £1,770'

Just had confirmation from Ebay, it's free for all Private Sellers. By rights, I should register as a business seller at Ebay, as it's the Private Sellers that HMRC are trying to get tax revenue from. But as I declare my earnings from Ebay to HMRC anyway, I'll stay as I am until someone tells me otherwise.

I had the notification for about free transaction for privates sellers today.
TBH I had pretty much given up on selling  anything on ebay due to the relatively large cut they used to take between them & PayPal.
In the early days e bay was all about small private sellers iirc with the shift having gone to nearly all businesses, be good to see it swing back the other way a tad.

Personally, I think it's great that private sellers won't incur any fees. It gives people the opportunity to clear out all those bits and bobs that were bought years ago and are never used and get a bit of money back, that's what Ebay was created for.
From my own personal point of view, I'll upgrade to a business seller sometime, I've been used to paying fees on the new parts I sell, so may as well carry on.
I'm thinking I may open another ebay account as a private seller to sell off some of the personal bits and bobs I don't use any more.

So, where are E-Bay going to make back the revenue they are losing from the fees?
