Nice just to put up on a shelf in the w/shop! Except who has an empty shelf waiting for something to occupy it?

To increase shelf capacity I have used plastic baskets on the shelves with marked boxes with the contents logged on a spread sheet complete with a column when the contents were checked & updated. A sure sign I have too much time on my hands.
Trouble is the tins would not be able to be viewed without transparent baskets.

Unfortunately my spreadsheet does not help me find a tool I had in my hand yesterday.

There's always the floor.  In my workshop each footstep has to be carefully planned.

Must have been ex Honda dealer stock? Ted that sounds a Tad OTT with the spread sheets! Do you have to stock take ad well?😂 I have a habit of returning all my tools back to their respective place at the end of each day. It’s the only way I know where to find them the next day. Gareth I was wondering about the paint condition in the tins. Florence I can’t set anything on the floor without tripping over it. Good job we garage the car at night that keeps things at bay in the w/shop!

Well I know someone who painted a tank with three little tins of approx. 40 year old 'Valentines' 400F Varnish blue and turned out OK.

Early Honda paint was made by 'Nippon Oil & Fats Company'

Wow! Long shelf life! I was looking to see what size the tins were but couldn’t see a contents on label.
Be interesting to see how much they are worth to somebody.

Johnny you don't know the half of it - I did find that when my 400 was all in bits I just put stuff where I could, in the garge loft, in my garage office, on the shelves, in boxes on the floor, some new parts went in the bottom of my wardrobe thinking I could remember where I had put stuff. Even some new parts were accidentally duplicted. I spent hours looking for parts over the almost two year rebuild not counting things that were droped on the floor!

Lesson learnt, the 500 was far more orgainised, my only major fail came when I started looking for the rear brake pedal return spring. I spent so many hours over many days on that quest. I eventually checked some early photos I had taken to find it was never there, also explains part of the rear brake bind when I first rode it.

I usually put hand written lists onto the spreadsheet on cold days or when tracking down spares.

I'm the same as you all my tools go back in the same place, well mostly. ;D ;D ;D

It must be great to know exactly where everything is whenever it is required it’s sitting there ready to go. And now back to the real world!😂 inevitably no one has room to keep a dismantled bike just in a designated area, so it does get spread about a bit thus the potential to temporarily lose something is real. I have at the moment a 550 that is starting to spread a bit over a wider area. It has gone from a tidy up to a bit more (as it does)! The good news for me is I won’t be stripping the engine but I will replace the head gasket and seals. The engine runs very well and is quiet having done a few hundred miles with it over the summer. So after this I think it is time to tidy some of the carnage I have created over the past few weeks. Plenty bits and pieces to clean/paint etc.
