Easy drain sump bolts

Hi all, my pal is building his latest motor up and as we were chewing the fat the topic turned to a thing he'd seen on the net called and 'EZ drain bolt'. They look terrible and no doubt work the same buit I'm sure someone on here mentioned a company that make nice, out the way, ones that allow ease of draining the sump. My pals a bit stiff with his back so the least amount of time he spends leaning and bent over the better. Can anyone remember which thread it was on? Someone said they had used them for years but cant for the life of me remember who?

Think they were 30 quid ish?????
Basically a fixed bolt that allows a quick release insert I think to allow a quick twist and the oil's draining. Saves him faffing about and keeps him straight.

I think it was Ken who mentioned the classy and reassuringly expensive ones Roo. It was on another post relating to something else and now I can't find it (my wife calls me Dino Dave because I'm useless with search engines!). I think Ken will be along as soon as he's put his polishing mops away for the day  ;D.
PS - I got the TL toolbox back from the powder coater on Friday, it looks great  8).

Just found these over here on flea bay, I've ordered one just to have a look. If its crapola, it'll get used somewhere I should think. The Stahlbus ones work out about £37.50 over here so if this is no good I'll get one of those ordered. Cheers for the info, spot on my pal Bob is well chuffed with the speed of the reply!;)

From my chemical handling life  :) we used a simple pipe fitted to a sump, this was long enough to extend upward past the liquid level and clipped out of the way. Just unclipped and drop into a catch tank to empty content.

Thinking along those lines, you could fit a aeroquip line with banjo fitting to sump plug on a bike, route the "tail" of pipe up to secure it, fit a cap at open end  to finish.

Oil drain would be unclip pipe, drop into catch after removal of cap ..... then reverse after drain out.

Many of the car sump have drain out in horizontal location, is that same for the bike application here ?

Just thinking of how far that extends in vertical orientation if fitted that way on a bike.

Remebering how much oil got pumped out of the breather pipe on a pre unit Triumph which was "dry" sump when the rotary disc failed i  am not sure a permanent open ended pipe is a good idea, there is a lot of windage inside the crankcases

I wasn't clear, but it was suggesting to use aeroquip, which can have competent "cap" that would not give a problem.

Except for what's in the cap of course, some drops do collect in there, probably from when it's used and the cap is refitted afterwards.  :) yes can see the difference.  The 750 and 400 (vulnerable to ground on 400 from memory) both are directly downwards as I recall. Wonder what bike Roo is fitting it to.

Funnily enough, all my family responsibility cars are side on. Think they are popular in sump gaurded competition vehicles to avoid dismantling that structure.

Interesting and related, I'm looking after some car gearbox that are fill "through" the drain outlet type. They've got a weir inside the opening, you have to jack them level, drain hot, leave to cool, fill cold, run transmission and select all gears, bring to prescribed temp, top it up to that weir level and replace plug, all underneath ! !
Thinking laterally, bought one of those oil drain pump that puts a thin tube down via dipstick tube to extract. This to pump oil in from bulk container in filling it. Its fitted with oil pump tricoid head, plus a switch to control, worked really well, slowly and carefully fills box in controlled manner. 

Running round like a dog with two tail afterwards  ;D properly chipper outlook with that success.

Wish my Volvo had a dipstick - they have done away with ATF dipsicks a while ago, my XC 40 has no engine oil dipstick either, it relies on a dash checking display.

I have to get the handbook out to remember the menu - daft!

Try the newish trucks Ted, they have an oil level on the lcd dash but it only works after the engine has been off for 45 to 60 mins

I have to read the one above through the obe-dobie-doo 2 port in diagnostics. No stick or top fill fitted.
