Parking
« on: May 28, 2025, 11:23:14 AM »
I have decided not to park amongst cars from now on.

Last week, I parked my bike outside a shop, at an angle with my rear wheel towards the kerb, between two parallel parked cars.  While I was in the shop, a car reversed into my bike and knocked it over.  According to a bystander, they hopped out of their car, had a quick look and then drove off leaving my bike on it's side pouring petrol onto the road.  The bystander very kindly picked up the bike and put it back on it's stand.  The damage included, very bent front brake lever, scratched master cylinder, bent handlebars and scraped silencer.

This was of course very annoying but luckily no one was hurt.  People at the scene who witnessed what happened did not manage to get the registration number so I have no way of finding out who it was.  It has left me feeling quite sad.

Anyway, I have repaired everything now apart from the handlebars which seem very hard to find these days.

The point of mentioning here is as a precaution.  I think I shall just have to park somewhere where it is less likely to be bumped into, for example taking up a car parking space in the car park.  Motorcycle spaces are very limited around here and there isn't one in my nearest village.

Sadly your experience is not unique, these days it seems lots of drivers are more concerned about their NCB than being honest by doing the right thing.

I have decided not to park amongst cars from now on.
In London we park anywhere we can get away with it these days. In the late 1980s my parked Suzuki RG500 was knocked over by a car that had been parked behind my bike, both were longways to the kerb, she had driven straight into the back of the bike. She tried to drive away too, but I heard the bikes alarm and saw her coming towards me and other people were also pointing that to me. I stood in the road to make her stop, this was about 200 yards down the road. The accident had happened outside a restaurant and a waitress, notepad in had got the number.  ;)
I began to realise the real reason for the accident, the passenger, a middle aged woman insisted on doing the talking, the young driver wouldn't even roll her window down or look me in the eye. Not only did it appear she might have had a drink, but also that the passenger was the one who should have been in the drivers seat. With a lot of reluctance I saw I needed to help them get away with that, involving the police would have meant no insurance pay out for a start.
Damage was over £600.oo so I feel I played my cards right if very reluctantly.  :(

Are you after bars drilled for internal wiring? Lots of bars about for a price.
I have some, not drilled and don't think they came from a Honda if you want. 26" wide and about 4" rise.

The bars on mine are 10" rise ram horn type bars from the 1970s.  I think I have found some very similar ones on Ebay but thanks both for asking.  I do have a proper set as well with internal wiring but like to sit upright so never used them.
