Electronic wizard required….
« on: August 02, 2025, 01:22:52 PM »
This is one of the units from my collection of intercom gubbins on my helmets, I’m struggling with connectivity and after closer inspection it appears this hack point is the issue. Does anyone know of any electrical wizards who might repair this port for me? It appears the factory is on summer shut down as they do over there and heard nothing back after 3 weeks……..proper service
I’ve been in contact with intercom repair folk and they say they don’t want to solder near plastic so won’t. Not sure the difference between microscopic PCB’s and that but there you go.

Possibly computer repair folk but currently out in shire still and not that well equipped with internet facilities. Can anybody point me in the right direction?

Cheers all

Leave it with me for a day or so Roo. My neighbour across the road is a computer wizard, whilst he probably can't repair it he probably knows of someone that can.
I'll ask him on Monday, I'm away this weekend on a speedway training school (at 63, I'm having a laugh aren't I!) at Iwade in Kent (where I used to ride when I was 19 whilst slim, supple and bounced well).
There's a PC/Laptop/mobile phone repair place near me who I took my mobile to when I dropped it in a bucket of water, ho, ho. Whilst it still worked it wasn't working well so I took it into them, they said they'd fix it. Five days and £50 later it wouldn't even switch on! Lots of very dodgy people out there.

Ace, nice one Dave. Yes I simply don’t trust anybody anymore, especially pop up ooorly spoken English joints who promise the earth and deliver nothing. Been bitten before!

I think there’s a rubber bit missing from inside the female port bit, I’m no electronic guru hence the ask. Have a bloody good time down there Dave, sounds a right hoot.

Respect to you Dave. Me thinks the forum deserves a few pics or even video of you in sideways action. I'm sure you are just being modest!

Hi Roo.
I spoke with the neighbour but I think it may be a no go. He said it is something he should be able to do but he has no idea how to do it although he did say it is something a PC repair shop should be able to do (as opposed to a mobile phone shop).
He's gone on holiday today for a couple of weeks but said he'll give it some thought. If you have a laptop repair shop near to you maybe worth giving them a try?
As for the speedway school, I had a great day but absolutely knackered at the end of it! I had aches yesterday in places I didn't know I had! There were 11 of us mugs, sorry, 'trainees' on the school ranging in ages from 9 years (with his own bike) to a silly old sod age of 63 (me 😱). They started us off in 160cc bikes on the junior track and once we got the hang of it we took them to the main track. There were a few crashes, luckily I stayed upright! Three of us were deemed skillful enough??? to be let loose on the full fat 500cc, methanol burning GM animal, what an experience of absolute fear! Throwing yourself at a fence at 40mph and turning left with no brakes riding a bike with a super quick action throttle really does cure constipation! I had such a great day and I'll definitely be doing it again🙂. 100% recommend.

Cheers for the help Dave I’ll see what about up here I. Darkest Norfolk and see if anyone can do a repair. Might be hard they all have 6 fingers up here. You’re a star for ragging that 500 round the track mate, super envious of that, what a fab day out mate. I’m deffo tempted once I become a member of the human race again.
