CB400SF 1992 (japan) Main Journal Bearings replacement.
« on: September 15, 2025, 07:37:08 PM »
Hello there. Im currently rebuilding my engine and i have to replace the damaged crankshaft together with the main journal bearings. I already have a used crankshaft and i need to find the correct bearings. After a quick look at the manual, i see that i need 1 pink, 2 yellow and 3 green bearings. The issue here is that i can only find the green bearings available on any eshop i have already checked. I still have the part number of yellow bearings but i can't even find any part number for pink bearings. 13324-KT8-013 is the green, 13325-KT8-013 is yellow and i don't know about pink. I read somewhere that since the other colours are discontinued, honda suggest using only green, (is that the case?). Any idea of what can i do now? Are the after market bearings reliable? They don't come with any colours variety.

1992 is a bit new for us on here and isnt it a dohc anyway?
When you add up the cost of all the parts you need is it not more economical to get a salvage engine?

As to shells, the comment on green shells is aimed more at the sohc 750 but you can fit the tightest tolerance shells and actually run the engine in properly, the clearances Honda build to are as if it had already been run in for 5000 miles

Well yes it seems to be a newer bike but i couln't find any other place with experienced people on these topics. The tighter shell i can find on market is the green one. Also it would be great to have a second engine just for parts but there's nothing being sold right now. Thank you for the help anyway!

I have built sohc before with tightest possible shells(black in 500) the run in with oil/filter changes at 500 and 1500, running in by not lugging the engine and not overloading 3/4 revs ok and lots of different speeds/gears.
What actually happened to the crank?

I bought the bike used and the seller told me it didn't need nothing and had been serviced some months before. After a month of riding, suddenly turned off, the engine was running without any oil and coolant. As you understand, the damage had been done and in a great extend. I'm changing crankshaft, connecting rods, pistons, cylinder block and cylinder head.

Ah, should really check oil at least weekly but yes i can see that problem, make sure all the oilways are thouroughly cleaned out from debris or it will eat it all again
