Products of interest.
« on: December 15, 2025, 01:26:54 PM »
Having recently worked on some more diverse vehicles, thought there's some things that are of benefit here in SOHC world that maybe not seen in our local relm.

This one  https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/357862362653 a broad spectrum anti seize compound with application possibilities in spark plugs and front caliper pivot pin, also rear drum brake arm pivot etc. Heat range  -51C to 871C likely to exceed most of these locations. Applications in marine environments too for that front brake arm being slooshed down in saline supply for those that ride in winter.  :)

Permatex anti seize the product, available in different formulation with this example looking most useful to this forum's interest.

This, supplier and products, for hose clamps that would be suitable for fuel lines etc

https://hcl-clamping.co.uk/

Two immediately are of interest. The "Ear (pinch) type in stainless, crimped by that "Ear" section to secure.

Also the "Spring" type that you hold open to slide onto hoe, then release to clamp the item.

Both of these are used extensively on contemporary German cars, with very slim form, secure and of considerable capacity on fuel/water/lubricant lines that aren't handling significantly raised pressures. They are highly reliable and don't crush the hose materials locally to compromise them.

Typical use also for water hoses, if anyone should be working on their NC30 perhaps  :)

Prompting these is that my son bought a fairly complex car, on which we knew was likely to be some challenges   :) full aluminium body, over 20 yrs old and with the components more aligned with our bikes for corrosion, delicacy of fixings etc.

Another product being "Permatex high tack gasket sealant" that's been useful for us on cam covers that have a bespoke rubber seal with "ferruled" bolts that specificly limit tightening gap in preventing uncontrolled winching down scenario.

The upshot of which is now aftermarket gaskets being the only option, but of probably more varied tolerances in that product than original factory fit. they leaked like a sieve  ::)

This has given a much better seal on application with very low risk. Cleaned gasket and faces with acetone first, then application of this high tack to the gasket and casting before immediate assembly.  Its non permanent, and so can be just rubbed off in excess. So far its performance has been very good, successfully preventing the contents of OHC assembly emptying onto exhaust manifold and smoking copiously  :-[
