Cb550 F2 Horn Mounting
« on: March 28, 2026, 03:22:38 PM »
Hi All

Does anyone have images of how the horn should mount on a 550 F2? I think I must be missing some parts. I've attached a photo of my frame.  Is this where it should go?

Thanks

no thats where the coils mount. horn mounts on a small bracket with 2 screw holes in front of downtubes, just out of sight on your pic. will see if i can find a pic
Love the 500 and 550 have a 500 called Lazarus under restoration

Thanks - I have,  but it doesn't show where the horn mounts or what it bolts to. I acquired this bike completely dismantled and many parts missing. Some areas are really not obvious.

BTW. The horn is only loosely mounted as I’m refurbishing….before anybody comments.

Ok that makes sense.  But my frame has no mounting holes in this area. Any ideas why not?

Is the F2 frame different to the others?

That picture I supplied is from a 1977 F2. I’m not totally convinced that the frame section you have photographed is original, but I’m definitely not an expert.

Looks like the frame has been either damaged in the past or the bolt holes have been filled in.

I tend to agree, Ken. The welding around the brace is about as bad as I’ve seen….cosmetically that is. It certainly doesn’t look original and the heavy paint coating can’t hide it. I’ll take some detailed photos of mine tomorrow with the horn off for comparison.
