I'm stinking of Gunk
« on: April 27, 2026, 06:13:43 PM »
Decided to give the bike a clean underneath around the sump and where oil flies off the chain around the main stand and swingarm. Laying on the driveway trying to spray Gunk where needed I somehow had the spray can back to front and sprayed myself instead.  Despite a good wash down with fairy liquid and a soak in the bath with loads of bubbles, I still stink of the stuff. I like the smell of gunk on a bike but not on me.  Wondering if the wife will have me in bed tonight.

One foot in the grave eh? Kind of thing Victor Meldrew would do.

At least the bike fired up second kick after draining the white spirit out of the carbs.

Regards
Dave

I also like the smell of Gunk but I will admit it tends to linger a little too long.

I'm a garlic fan as well, some diced fresh carlic cloves on a chicken breast wrapped in bacon - delicious. ;D ;D

I suspect that the smell of garlic on someone elses breath is what a lot of folk dislike, its different to the impact on your own taste buds, of course you can't readilly smell your own breath. :-[ :-[ :-[

LOL! You guys are cracking me up!  ;D

When I come home from the shed my GF is all over me...  :o
mixed scents of exhaust, petrol, engine oil, brake/parts cleaner stuck in my clothes and the remnants of a once great society of hair... 8)

With work-pants in the hamper, the aroma also lingers in the bathroom for a while... ;)

My wife is not impressed when I come in from the garage. "You stink of oil and exhaust" is what I usually get. 😖
Fortunately I'm perfect in every other way! 🤣

I personally like the smell of carbolic soap or hot tar.
A tip I once saw about garlic, cut the clove in half and take out the green bit. You still get the taste of garlic but not the after effects.

Garlic is completely and utterly essential to life, health and wellbeing.  I cannot imagine life without it and probably have it every day.

Gunk is a black thinnish liquid that dissolves oil/grease/tar. You brush it on/in and then rinse off with water. It goes milky coloured when water hits it. Extremely effective degreaser imo. Very old school.

You're right John, I have a gallon of it somewhere. I used to be black back in the 70s.
