A question regarding after market parts.

Hi all, It's been a long time since I last posted.  A few days ago I purchased a 1975 CB 750, a US import originally but registered here in the UK.  I'm looking at doing a slow restoration at my leisure, the bike itself is in excellent condition and rides very for it's age, however, the bright work isn't particularly bright and after spending hours trying to get it looking shiny, well, let's just say it wasn't a great result.

My question is, I know that aftermarket spares are available from David Silver, but are these sourced from the same sellers found on Ebay, the ones I have spotted ship from India or Vietnam, if these aren't the same suppliers , does anyone have any experience with the quality of these items found on Ebay?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thing is you gets what you pays for, at least with Silver if its crap you have the UK law backup and mostly his descriptions are accurate. PLUS when you buy from abroad factor in the import duty then vat on the total of cost+carriage+duty then the approx £10 to 15 the carriers will charge you to collect and pass on the fee

If your chrome is the original parts get them replated. More expensive than buying pattern but at least you know they fit and they are original (and in most cases made of thicker steel).
I used Ashford Paters who aren't based in Ashford but in Crayford, S. E. London. They are by no means cheap but with Chrome work you get what you pay for. Every part they get in goes through the same process, they are meticulous. Send a photo of the parts you want plated (with a ruler next to it so they get an idea of size) and they will come back with a quote within a couple of days. They are always happy to discuss on the phone AFTER you have received the quote (not before).
I used to use a guy in Hayes, Middlesex but like all other platers he lost his environmental licence. Having found Ashford Platers I wouldn't go anywhere else.

I bought a rear mudguard for my K6 from the Ebay Vietnam supplier. It just about fitted, requiring a fair bit of very careful force and grease to get it into place. It was wider than the original mudguard. Once in, it looks good and has been no further trouble. No signs of rust on the inside yet.
