Where did my thread go?
« on: August 07, 2026, 09:56:50 PM »
I know it may have caused a few disagreements but there was valuable information in my thread from Ken, Bryan, Nige and Ted regarding mixture screw settings.  If this is how minor disagreements are dealt with I'm not sure this is the form for me, sure lock it but deleting it?!  This has lost some useful information for users.

Don’t forget Skoti as well. I predict some of the experts will walk if this carries on, I’ll be one of the first.

If folk leave then the self appointed Sanitizer has won.

A good friend of mine was a moderator on a Model Building site for many years. He had to deal with the odd trouble maker who would flit from one similar site to another causing discourse. In the end he banned one who tried to rejoin under another name. I don't understand the science, he blocked the users IP address?

Probably. My friend had a pagan forum I was on, she questioned why two people were using the same computer, she could tell from the IP address. I see no reason why that facility can't be there.

Yes, you can do that Ted. The problem is when people share a comp or an internet router. You ban them all, so banning Trigger for instance would most likely ban NJ.

Unsurprisingly our administrator decided to cut the tiresome thread.

But on forums such as this perhaps the pen is mightier than the sword and maybe the only way to a final resolution.

DOMP. Just a suggestion, but you could start a new thread and schedule out the pertinent “valuable”, factual information. That would be appreciated by all as it would make that information easily accessible?

Youve done nothing wrong Dom, and tge thread was legitimate in its enquiry.

We can see the background and the division the question has turned up, but its a fundamental part of how these carburettor work, therefore pertinent to setup and running them.

Good overview was offered by different contribution, ultimately to each consensus here between us of just how this works.

Effectively, we've something of a peer group review from those on here from both different experience, different walks of life, independently offering their view. The question was answered with good reasoning and observation, in agreement, of how the flow is managed. I don't believe there was and controversy in that.

Clearly someone saw this as opportunity to exact their own bias and position as self appointed agent to overule anything in the way of further discussion, DR Santizer in this case (not a real doctor) with a whole litany of extreme views as to other's behaviour.
This it what was wrong.

I'll repeat the words I used, because it fully describes his actions. Ignorant of topic and Honda detailed instructions, such  ignorance that he can't even see his mistake and its ramifications. Arrogance in now putting that view and insistence that we should all adhere to that misguided sermon. You really couldn't make this up.

Ted was bang on the money,  indicating correctly that he has supplanted facts with anecdotal and solus experience in dictact of how anyone else should look at this topic.
That doesn't stand up to any reasonable scrutiny, but his actions are then aimed at prevent this being discussed on forum.

This , the setting of these carburettor subsystem are core fundamental part of maintaining these bikes. Making the topic so toxic, with those actions precludes any further realistic discussion with his presence.

DR should have been suspended from from for his actions. He still should if there's to be any pragmatic discussion and with any depth to form and view the operational effects of this function.

He even suggests putting a pipe up our rear orifice and listening for pops and bangs as alternative to Honda's "incorrect " instructions. Sounds like he's listening to his  own "Farmer Giles " if you get my drift, and that euphemism  ;D

To delete the thread puts a serious mark on this forum's intent. For anyone who's time has been wasted in thinking, writing and editing content, that's not really excusable.

With his actions, he's now put himself in tbe position of others he claims to combat by this path. Specifically, wrong on topic, but denial of and avoiding observable facts in consideration of his very narrow band view.

There's very good reason in why DR is wrong, the disruptive, aggressive approach to now obscure that should not be part of a valued forum.

BTW Nige. Your assertion that you can fine tune carb mixture settings by watching for a 100rpm drop etc is 100% correct. I never doubted it myself but of course the DR did. I have recently started to work on my BIL 1976 Z1000A1, I downloaded the workshop manual and guess what, Kawasaki describes what you were saying almost word for word. Maybe you read that in the past and remembered it as Honda instructions. These things happen.

I can post a pic of the method IF anyone doubts it.

Pages 72 & 73 of original  750 workshop manual is the method, within overall  carburettor setup.

The 100 rpm drop not present there, it calls for highest rpm when turning airscrew, but added in later Honda manuals.

Thats not a bad addition depending what you experience in idle conditions. That 100 drop away from "peak" many would prefer in how it feel with throttle closed.

It also shows the interaction with absolute vacuum measurement when throttle is closed too, that bit that is often quoted as "it doesn't matter" which partly holds the key to the dreaded "hanging" idle condition dome experience.

Its not a huge text, but absolutely laden with detail and meaning if approaching with a enquiring mindset.

Worthwhile you putting up the kawasaki reference too Ken.

RIGHT, just to finalise the setting procedure i have attached pics of 2 pages of CB 750 K manual, ok its a dohc but still a 4 pot with 4 carbs and it describes how to set idle mix using an accurate tacho Ken do you think is acceptable, i could always make it a video by moving the camera about a bit!
