Can't think why police in the UK would stop you regarding MOT.  When the police "run" the plate it should show them that the bike is legal as is...as long as the tax info is current.  Unless, of course, the officer(s) are ignorant of the fact that an MOT is not required for vehicles of that age.

Me too, but again, maybe they really just want a looksee at the bike.  ;) Whatever, the snobbish thought of being able to stick my nose in the air and say 'I do not need one officer' is also very nice!  :)

There was quite a lobby in both houses regarding historic vehicles and Mot exemption.
A previous MP in Derbyshire was Greg Knight, he had a collection of cars from the 1930s to the 1950s
 Iirc..

He and other motoring organisations pointed out that the brakes on an old vehicle could not meet the standards of the modern day. Jaguars like the E-type with inboard rear discs could not pass the test for the handbrake as more sophisticated Mot bays had accurate load measurement equipment not the old gadget that sat on the floor if the vehicle to measure brake efficiency on an actual road test. It was recognised that a rod braked car would never pass an MOT. This resulted in the need for wider exemptions not just Veteran Cars, Vintage needed a moving scale.

As regards to police stops the ANPR system is linked to the DVLA computer. The ANPR system does not access all the DVLA data on a roadside stop. If you check the Mot history of your historic bike on the DVLA system  it will show as no current MOT, it does not have the facility to show the MOT exemption form where you make the declaration as to it's roadworthiness. An experienced Road Policing Officer will know about Historic Exemptions, with the reduction of Traffic Patrols this knowledge is no longer well known amongst normal patrol officers.

I was on the back of my brother in laws CB125 one day. We stopped at a shop to buy something. When we set off again this police sergeant jumped out from behind a red phone box shouting Stop!!!!. He took my BIL license and commented mmmm provisional eh. L plates and 2 up. It’s my lucky day. He wrote the ticket out and was looking very smug until I asked him if he wanted to see my license. Rather sarcastically he said” and why would I want to do that?” Because I’ve passed my test I said. He gave me a really dirty look, got the ticket back and ripped it up whilst muttering to himself. I couldn’t hear what he was saying but I bet there were some swear words in there. He was so annoyed he just waved us away, wouldn’t even speak to us.

Lack of training, a competent Constable should know this, we now have Sergeants who have poor knowledge of the law.
The loss of knowledge and expertise in the Police, CPS and Courts have all suffered at the hands of cost cutting.

Also an almost complete loss of police out on the beat. This is probably why we have pushbike/e-bike/Rickshaw anarchy in London at least, they think the law is optional. Camera's aren't very good when there is no number plate to record. Boy this thread has changed foxes, but then again good conversations often do!

Many Police forces took the Home Office cash for PCSO's at half the price, with the savings they could not spend it on more Constables due to year on year budget reductions from the Home Office.
