K3 Carb issue

 I just noticed something that I codged up years ago when I fitted the K3 carbs. I cant remember why I couldn't do it properly at the time. Can you see my airbox rubbers - they are not long enough. They still fit pretty good - holding by just the trumpet flare on the end of the rubber.



 I'd like to do this properly now...are there longer rubbers..?? if so does anyone have any...?  are the manifolds the same...?

 There was something about 1 groove or 2 in the manifold but thats about as much I can remember.

I think I know what the problem is, the rubbers look like 500 ones which are shorter than k3 ones. For the k3 carb + throttle linkages to fit and operate you need the k3 rubbers which would be / are longer. When I last actively looked they were NLA but I think someone said pattern ones might now be available.

Done this mod to my 550 k0 years ago & still works well. You have to change manifold, front + rear rubbers & a little mod to choke cable bracket to make it fit idiot light / handle bar clamps, Daz

  Well he seems a top bloke and 4 new rubbers are on their way to me now for 50 bucks...not bad really for re-manufactured new ones. $15 is post.

  I have to do this because the stock carbs on a stock airbox are so restrictive its rediculous. I opened up my airbox - bit with the filter in - years ago to let the engine breath, and I conseqently needed to mess around with all carb jets, needles, and screws to get it to run super smooth again. My airbox has holes in the rear and on the bottom. I simply couldn't get push in jets for the stock carbs - quickly and at a reasonable price anyway, and I allready had a bucket load of screw in jets from racing, so 550 carbs it was. My original 500 carbs have been on a shelf for 25 years but still look in very good nick.

 When I was looking for the new chrome points cover I found some other bits I bought new years ago. A couple of clutch pushrods, 4 carburettor repair kits, brake kits, plus my original switch gear - I'm defo putting my cruise control back on..!!!

Just in case you didn't know, you will have to pay Import Duty on them, my velocity stacks cost me $85 delivered, but Her Majesty's Robbers and Crooks nicked a further 16 quid on arrival!

 I buy alot from the states and sometimes you get caught and sometimes you dont...I got caught for my Kawasaki Wiseco's but so far all my Honda stuff has got through. It worked out 50/50 on thousands of pounds worth of RD stuff about 10 years ago aswell.

 You just take it on the chin dontya....and before you bid for it add on 20% and see if its still worth it.
