Crankshaft seal behind points

Hi
I've fitted a new crank seal behind the points plate o my cb750 SOHC when I rebuilt my bike a short while ago . From what I remember it was a right pain to fit ( it's the original from dave Silver) the edges where serrated and it didn't go in that well , anyone had the same problem ? Is there another seal available somewhere else ?

I assume you fitted the seal BEFORE joining the top and bottom casings? Trying to fit that seal with the cases assembled is 99.9% likely to fail If done properly with the cases apart, the seal sits in a groove machined in the casings

Thought it would be something like that .
Any way this can be sorted without splitting the cases again ..

The only way to guarantee a leak free seal is to split the cases I'm afraid It probably can be done with the engine complete, but will almost certainly start leaking again DO NOT be tempted to use sealant for a quick bodge, too much risk of it getting inside the motor, often with horrendous consequences

Thanks for that , really don't want to split the casing again will be taking out the seal today and having a look .
The leak is getting oil all over the foot peg now so will have to sort it.

Bought a seal from a local seal and bearing shop although it was a mm thiner , I've done about 100 miles after fitting in the usual way and it's still as dry as a bone !!
Hope fully it will be fine now
