Engine stand

Hi guys had a little luck on a scratch card and bought this with the winnings.Boy I wish I had it when rebuilding the engine.When its on it soooo easy to move it.You can kick it over without any straining and as you can see by the oil coming out of the return piece of cake.I have a spare oil tank,carbs and coils might hook it all up and try to get it running.It was including post just over 40 quid.Whats your thoughts?

Bought a similar thing at Ebay for my two CB500/4 projects... not started yet though, but I think that assembly/work on an engine stand seems more friendly to just cleaned/polished/painted engine cases, as sliding it up and down your workbench

Hi Andy.
No its German but they speak good English. On eBay UK number 200715575270.Cost with post to UK 48 euros about 38 quid.Hurry they only have 8 left good luck. In my view bloody good.Asked a fabricator here to make me one his price you guessed was more.ST1100 your right trying to get the cylinders on nightmare with this it dont move.

My first project, a 500/4 chop came with one a bit like that. I use it to bench test engines before installing for projects. Handy but not too hard to knock one up. I'm amazed it's worth shipping given one could be knocked up in an hour or so with even a basic welder and a small ammount of steel.

True, but most of us are not welders and don't have steel kicking around. Getting someone to make one for you is fine if you have a friend or colleague who can do it. Any self-respecting machine shop would want at least £40-£50 per hour.

Agree with you Steve never did get round to learning to weld for the sake of 40 quid life's to short.

Sounds like a chance for the shed to earn it's keep. I never thought there would be a markett for something like that but I forget that welders aren't in every shed. Comes of being on a farm.

Despite that I would be able to weld and have access to the tools, I went for the Ebay thing for its reasonable price... compared to the hustle and efforts of a DIY project...
It even comes already painted and with all bolts required...

The only thing I might add to it, are a set of rigid coasters with stoppers on them.


In theory I could bake my own bread too, but....

I agree that everyone isn't a coded welder like yours truly , and even if they do a bit of "hobby welding" they probably don't have access to bits of angle/flat bar . But engine stands can be knocked up out of bolted/riveted up sections of scrap ally  , and I've even seen one constructed out of wood .

I geuss you pays your money and takes your choice. I think I'll be knocking a few up for 500 / 550 engines and sticking them on ebay. The killer is time which is why it's easyer to buy for most people, myself included for the no time constraint but sadly the cash front too...
