yet another 500

Well I have done it again, another CB500 four project which came from Birkenhead via ebay. The main reason for buying this one was that it came with a set of original 4/4 exhausts which the seller said were in very good condition, and he was right, they are almost mint! The owner had started the restoration but due to health problems decided to sell. It is a complete bike dismantled, the frame etc has already been powder coated, brand new Hagons, some re-chromed items like the handlebars and rear mudguard and quite a few new parts like all the clamps and rubbers etc for the exhausts. Even the wheels look like they have been rebuilt! I paid £1050 for it, which I think is ok considering all the bits included, some of which will go onto my other bike Pics to follow.

I would say that was a bargin I would have paid that for the pipes alone But maybe that is why I have no money.
oh well you've got to spend it on one of the old girls.
The one in the house or the one in the garage.
I know which one I would choose.

A stash like that I'd just want to put in the barn and look at...
Why make it into a bike? (It'll only get dirty)

Thanks for the kind words, I think I am a Hondaholic! It is already a rolling chassis, just sorting wiring but not sure what the long term plan is, as UK Pete says I could use all the best parts to improve my other 500 and still sell it on and get my money back. Have you seen the set of new 4/4 pipes on ebay? £1400 start price and they are dented! Green1 I no longer have to make a choice as her indoors has moved out!! Also tonight I fetched the 750 f1 and f2 projects that I bought from Jonny so a busy weekend ahead!

Hondas are just so good that they are addictive, have fun putting it all together. Not much can beat the satisfaction of assembling those boxes into a functioning motorcycle.

Well today I have fitted the 4/4 exhaust to my number one bike, after a bit of head scratching I sorted out the mountings but they didn't fit perfectly, needed a bit of fettling! Just two issues, a slight blow as I didn't fit new gaskets and my centre stand fouls the new exhaust, I think it is a 550 item so will swap it with number two bike. Now it is close to standard trim, I am going to replace my alloy rims with original chrome items.

well the best laid plans and all that, put new gaskets on exhaust, now sound good a bit louder than the motad with more of a rasp to the exhaust note. So next job was to swap the centre stand from my spare bike, but I discovered it had been powder coated with the pivot pin seized in and fitted to the frame by bending the mounting lugs. Now I can't move it as it is well stuck! Tried heat and wd40, hammer, bigger hammer, twisting in vice all with no movement at all. What a waste of money having it coated! Anyone got a spare stand?

I bought a secondhand stand from the US. Cost me $15 and looked like new. Came with greased up pin. Wasn't worth the effort of fixing my rusty old multi wintered seized solid thing.

Had a small victory today, tried Oddjobs method of sawing down the length of the pin, combined with heat and lots of WD40 finely got it to move, so saving the cost of a new part and powdercoating. Will sleep well tonight!!
