Primary Chain Wear

So I've got to dismantling my engine and I've found some horrendous gouges in the lower case. The primary chain had been running very loose for a long time. I've never had this running so couldn't say how loud it would have been!

Of course I'll be getting a new primary chain, but what do I do about the case? The cut to the oil passage is super deep (although not through yet) should I get it filled in? I was considering using an epoxy putty, would that hold up inside an engine?

I really wouldn't worry too much about as it hasn't broken through, I certainly think it would be a bad idea to put epoxy putty or any similar substance inside an engine, too much risk of it degrading, breaking up and causing untold damage by blocking the oil pump strainer :o If you are REALLY worried about it, you should find a reputable alloy welding company and get them to do something with it, but even that is not without risks :-\. It's your engine after all, but if it isn't leaking I would leave well alone! ;D

Ah ace! I may well take you up on that offer, I have removed the bearing on the clutch side but I daren't risk trying to get the other out in case I knocked it sideways and warp the case, is there any risk of this?

I'll get a quote from a welding company and it it's ridiculous I'll forget it.

I would take you up on that offer but happy to let BryanJ have them if he's in need, I'm a while away from reassembly and don't get paid until this Friday so can't do much about it right now, are they hard to come across?

If you come across any more sources for a primary please let me know. I've never been happy with the amount of noise mine makes and it would be good to have the option to replace it on a whim.  :) I must also buy those dampers. I didn't know they existed.
