Help can't get cam chain back on

Am I doing something wrong just can't get cam chain back on 1 hour so far. Is there a special way?  Iain

Ian,
           I had trouble doing mine at first.
Make sure the tensioner is fully backed off.
Make sure you are putting the chain back on from the left side of the cam as you are looking at it (exhaust ports in view).
In my experience the chain will not go back on from the other side.

I spent a while at mine until I decided to move the chain to the other side of the sprocket as I had tried everything else, much easier.

took me about an hour to realise that,

and when I fitted it it was 180 degrees out of crank,

luckily it was before and after a vacation,so when I returned,I sorted it before I turned the motor

Yes very silly being able to fit a cam sprocket in 2 positions

surely you can't get it 180 degrees out as long as crank is in correct position and cam notch lines up it cant be wrong?

 the problem was,I had lined the crank at TDC 1-4 ,and the cam notch at 3pm ish !!

but ,spent about an hour struggling to fit chain to sprocket,to shaft,during that time the crank got moved,mugs of tea
nearly got thrown across the garage,this at 9pm friday night,the day before going off on holiday,

it finally fitted,everything rotated as it should,no rockers fitted yet,

BUT !!

 while I was away,I gave it some thought,and decided to check the timing when I got back,
sure enough,it was well out,but,I remembered how to fit it quickly,so job done,properly
timed
and all back together,
only other assemble hassle is the airbox-cargs etc

dont want to either again in an hurry

Ian,

              Sounds like a sticking valve.
Have you had the guides done, I had this on my 400 4 valve sticks then the piston gives it a little tap and it snaps shut.
Could be wrong though.

No all this had done was head gasket also I have got huge valve clearences. It is not possible to put anything back together wrong is it?

Did you read the manual carefully about fitting the top cover as its very easy to bend valves if you don't

I used elastic bands to hold the rockers up as I found a clip on youtube.

If you cannot adjust to the correct clearances something is not together properly, bent or broken.
