Hello fellow sohc owners,
I joined last year, but never did say hello, hope I can stop being an occasional lurker! and make some posts now...I was a member on the US site a good while ago, I thought I'd make a new start now on the UK one. I own a 1970 CB750 owned 26 years, its been on the road last 18 of those,  has been very reliable apart from X2 aftermarket  electronic ignitions, boyer bransden lasted 7yrs, DS sytstem 15mths!  suffice to say it now has the reliable points back on! so looking forward to advice and comments.

hi ally love your bike, i am restoring a couple of early ones at the moment, did you find drilling the disk made any difference

Only on a Honda can you say points are more reliable.

 think the drilled disc was a slight improvement in the wet, sintered pads helped,  I also recently tried deglazing the disc with emery cloth for its last mot,  the stainless disc was looking really polished, and the front brake lever solid no feel to it(just got to live with that!). and was surprised the mot test guy said the front brake was really good "compared to some he see's" that last test!

Thanks, kinda like the clean lines and functionality of my 4-1 exhaust now, now I can enjoy it without that niggling thought.. "are the pipes nearly rusted through yet" ...and they did very quickly that last set! Its a shame the X4 pipes are paper thin & rustprone in my climate,  Now if Honda will release a rustless light-weight set for its 50th anniversary I would have a set of those.

Great thoughts but you know ain't gonna happen.I agree with your thoughts but my set of four have lasted the last 5 years probably because each winter fill them full of all fluids available and so far well happy.Will keep all informed as this progresses.By the way it only see,s the sun.Sorry at my age fair weather rider and dont be surprised at nearly 3 grand a set you do understand

You could always make the suggestion to Dave Silver, he gets replica sets made anyway, see if he could get some made with stainless silencers, they would out last us! Even if they worked out twice the price of the current replicas, they'd be good value

Nice thought Hairygit but Ds would not do that because he would not sell so many.Regardless of what people say he is in buisness to sell parts does not matter if he is in to trying to keep these classics on the road or not

that would be good if he did ..    was a Vietnamese supplier on ebay of replica parts who supplied the four pipes complete,  he said they could do them in stainless when I asked, said  they would be a bit pricier, wonder if a stainless steel system might be  heavier? maybe they can manufacture them thinner and lighter in a stainless material?
