US version sloper

Never seen one of these 'slopers'  before. It has the normally blanked off starter fitted !! (probably a 6v starter like CB92)

Wonder if one like this as a USA import could be converted into UK spec?

I only looked at it because I thought it was the usual eBay scam , wrongly calling  a later tubed frame bike a 'sloper' to get a better price but hey-ho I was wrong.

As you can probably  gather .. one of these days I will have one of those bikes for my collection. But as the old Honda sage I met at Stafford who agreed with my philosophy said . "If you want to restore a rare bike then get hold of a decent set of exhausts first as a starting point". That's what I did with my 250K0    !

Back in the day I had a sloper and a CB160 at the same time (much preferred the 'sloper) . The 160 came with a spare motor that had 'thrown a rod' and other parts so I fitted the alternator,rectifier, starter etc to the 175  but converted it back when I sold it.

Ash, quite a few of these on the www.Hondatwins.net site, never actually seen one in the UK, but you never know.
Quite a number of differences to the European sloper:- tank, side panels, handle bars, starter, possibly others.
Seat cover from P&K Classic bikes.

The guy who owned the CB500/4 that was featured in Motorcycle Mechanics recently has several of these in his collection....nice chap. They are rare over here, but they are here!!

Forgot to add, the ebay listing should be a 'Honda CA175' as it was introduced to the states in 1969...possible the term 'CD175 sloper' just stuck as it was sold in Europe 2 years earlier.

So are these the magic numbers then : LEFT  18400-237-687  &  RIGHT 18300-237-687
Bet QP Motors had some stashed away when they shut. Fitted SS125 ones to my 'sloper back in the day. They arrived from 'Croft' motors in Derbyshire to my Uni Inbox with only a bit of string tying them together and an address label attached !!

I have a question from one 'sloper' rider to another...or anyone else that may know the answer?
Q: How was the battery fixed within the pressed frame enclosure?
I have the owners manual, Original 1968 Honda workshop manual, your parts list and cmsnl.com various model parts list, but none show the 'Bracket?' or 'Rubber band? or part number reference?

Any help would be appreciated

Hmm .. can't remember Al. Thought it might have been a little hinged bracket secured by a 6mm hex bolt  but that may have been my C200.  Sure would like one of those bikes again. Wonder if DK could locate one for me. can't bear another  UK  rust hulk resto! Done my bit on that score too may times.

Very close to the European spec, apart from the starter and high handle bars.
The 6 volt starter motor is available! still mulling over whether to fit one, the only thing that put me off was the cost of the correct RHS switch with the starter button.
CD175    Battery size 6v-12AH  (starter model)
CD175A  Battery size 6v-10.5AH (no starter)

Not sure on battery mount Al. I can't find anything for the Sloper or SS125 about mounting the battery in form of a rubber strap or a hinged bracket so wondering if it has one other than the rubber tray it sits on and the cover retains it. I sold mine in 1974. Just before I sold it I left it parked in Durham in a street, on a trip there from Sunderland and when I returned some lowlife had taken the battery out and left it lying on the road, so don't reckon it was bolted. Bugging me know about how it was mounted. I think it was the C200 that had the hinged bracket and m6 bolt.

Can't you drill out the existing handlebar switch to mount the button, chances are the casting is the same for both models. But I could be wrong!

Thanks for the reply Ash.  From a process of elimination within the battery compartment there is a 6mm stud (mounts the indicator relay) and 2 other holes that would have supported a starter solenoid (not a bracket)  So a rubber band similar to the CB750 may have been used?
There is also a welded steel lip within the battery compartment (last photo) that would have supported the rubber band ring, but no sign of how the other end was fixed...I'm going to adapt something

I had thought of drilling the switch, still 50/50 weather to do the starter

Hey Ash, thanks for posting that ad for the CD175, but am I the only one that thinks the claimed 155mpg is a little optimistic?
