Young learners

Hi everyone,  My Son wants a bike - he is currently 16 and I havent got the foggiest idea what the rules are for the ages, cc, tests required etc (in the UK).

Are their any 16 or 17 year olds out their who have just got a bike?

I passed my test 27 years ago, before all the CBT malarki came in.:woohoo:

I know what you mean, my wife wanted to get here licence a few years ago, and it was just easier to go for direct access, cost 350 quid mind.

When I took my test, the bloke just stood on a corner and said drive round a bit and I'll watch, then do an emergency stop...... OK you've passed.

But with your lad being 17 it complicates matters,

I did some googleing for you, and considering that this is an important issue found naff all. I n the end went to the DVLA website (doh) and found this

http://www.dvla.gov.uk/media/pdf/leaflets/inf31.pdf, take some wakey pills with red bull before you read it though.

Be prepared to fork out some dough though. and average CBT is about

Yeah, I remember that too. 'twas about 1980 I took my test. It did seem a bit easy. In fact I think I took a wrong turning on one bit and went a different way back to where he was standing (I knew the area well). He never said anything about it, must have thought I was a right clown.

Thanks for your help everyone.

When I passed my test, I loaned a Suzuki A100 from a friend.

When I got to the bit where you drive round the block the bike stopped running half way round and the indicators packed up.:blink:

I managed to fix both of these problems in 20 seconds flat and zoom the rest of the way round, making up time and arriving sedately at the other side when in view of the examiner.

Dont ask me how I did it -  It was the fastest repair I have ever done! :woohoo:
