CB500 bolt sets?

Hi,

all the sets offered I can find are stainless Allen head bolts...

Anyone aware of a source for a standard galvanized, OEM like set, with the Philips, 8 & 10mm heads for top and bottom end?

Don't know of a specific set of JIS BZP screws but  the correct finish and close head form to original OEM Honda. Yamiya only do packs for CB750

Flange bolts, flange nuts, countersunk Philips... yumm...

Even a pre-sorted CB500 kit offered

Well I prefer to stick to standard BZP JIS crossheads  but I am an old fuddy duddy  ;D ;D

Well, I concur...  ;)

In my experience is the OEM Honda zinc (as well as their black anodizing) highly durable and obviously superior over common hardware store items...
Any comments on the BZP quality from above shop?
(which I'm still wading in BTW... those M6 chrome flange bolts would look really nice on the clutch and alternator covers of a café...)

Seems I'll have to dig into the parts catalogue, list all engine/cover bolts and place a huge order of BZP bolts 'n nuts there...)

Has anybody used these Megapacks, they've been in my watch list for some time. This listing for the CB750 pack is a bit short on detail, is it for the entire bike or just the engine? The CB500 pack appears to be much more sorted, individual bags etc, where the 750 is just one big mixed bag.

Not sure Roy, I got mine from Yamiya as full sets. Plus the No 8 bolt set for K0 (not  strictly 'true' to the original  large 8 head but the best you are going to get other than NOS or replated.

The true Honda screws were not fully threaded and had a little dot imprint next to the cross on the head.
They are JIS  crosshead not true Phillips or Pozidrive.

Back 'in the day' all of the 5-Star Honda dealers used and sold 'T' handle JIS drivers made by Vessel in Japan. Used to have a set , sadly long gone.

Not sure how accurate they are but I bought a load of stuff from Custom Fasteners when I was rebuilding the F1 especially the Phillips stuff.

Its that punch-mark which IDs them as a JIS bolt, well known "secret" among those who care  ;)
In our ISO dominated world unfortunately most workshops (and tool traders) don't...

When in distress one could compromise by grinding the tip off an ISO PH02 driver, place it on the screw-head and give the handle a firm punch with a mallet or plastic hammer, but by this you're already forging the former JIS screw-head into other shape...

Found a shop where one can order the Vessel JIS(+)02 and (+)03 (practically all you need) individually and reasonable priced:

Also my ISO PH01 driver is taking cover there, protected from further abuse by my buddy, notoriously working PH02 bolts on his z750 with it...  ::)

But I'm still not any further with zinc plated CB500K2 engine bolts...
I can get a JIS(+) engine cover bolt set (33 pieces) for a horrific price from Andy (will probably have to bite the sour apple there), but I'm still nowhere with the flange bolts for clutch and alternator cover or engine case...

Seems I'll have to create an Excel sheet from the parts catalogue and then either hunt each dimension/type/form down individually, or even order OEM at my nearby Honda stealer...

Hi Ash......try this chap......FAB Fastenings. He lives behind my house and when I was working on my CB750 a few weeks ago at the back of my garage he came over and introduced himself.......check out his Website - FAB Fastenings. He doesn't 'advertise' his Honda stuff as they threatened to take him to court for using their name on his Graphics, so a phone call or e mail my be useful.

I think he may be an sohc member but I don't know his moniker. Good luck.

OK, I've yet listed all visible/outside engine bolts incl P/N, description, dimensions and location into a spreadsheet, which I'll  combine with photos of the engine from various angles.
Still due are engine mounts, suspension/frame, upper/lower clamps and fenders.
From this I can work on what to obtain as pattern part in original look and what I'll have to actually order OEM.

It's made by Vessel in Japan though... anyway cheap enough .

Arrived today. JIS crosshead bits &  look new ( the owner must have only used the flat blade one).. Bloomin bargain ...spotted 'cos someone on here asked about JIS
