Make sure you also renew the primary shaft dampers along with the primary chain, it will last a lot longer if you do and will also be far quieter as they tend to go hard and lose their damping ability as a result.

The primary chain was already on my list as it had started eating its way into the crankcase, but i'l add the dampers as well.

Valentinik:
brilliant thank you.

Bryanj:
On the 550 only one selector is on the drum the other two pivot on a seperate shaft with pegs locating in the drum grooves, again in the manual

Valentinik:
Progress is slow due to a lack of time and money at the moment but tonight i got half an hour to start building the top crankcase up. I got the shift drum and shaft installed and starter gear (not sure if this is the correct term for this?)

Valentinik:
Tonight I got everything in place and checked all gears engage thanks to the advice from Bryanj and Oddjob.

It selects all 5 gears and each one seems to select smoothly.
