Centre stand refitting

I managed to remove my centre stand, shot blasted and paint it, looks great.
However refitting it proving tricky, I have read various posts on US forum, but can't find a definitive answer on how to refit it.
I struggled today, am going to try this method tomorrow, unless anyone has any other ideas.

thanks in advance.

I think on my 750 I attached the spring first and then levered the stand into position, I've also heard of using coins to lengthen the spring as well.
Cheers

I hooked second spring onto the correct one, then put a screwdriver through the second spring taking advantage of the easier space afforded. Cannt quite recall but I think having the sidecar brackets to leaver against helped, a bit of tough string might be as effective- baler twine would be perfect. Other work aroounds include bending a cheap screwdriver into a u shape to pull the spring - you can get proper tools for this job, they cost more than a cheap screwdriver though, and I generally have a few chipped cheap screwdrivers knocking around for stirring paint and as mobile toolkit fodder.

I too used a spring puller wearing a gardening glove for extra grip - it took all my feeble strength to get it on then after a couple of short heaves I pulled it into place - one mine the spot weld in the looped hadle broke on the handle on the last pull!
I should have bought a better puller like the one that Laverdaroo posted!

Thanks all. Used the ratchet strap method, my Dad had a hefty bit of metal we could bolt to on the bike lift to get the right angle. then we levered it over and cut the string and it popped on.

I
knew
I had read something about it and believed it had been here. It was in the German forum however.
According to Hendrik, the trick is actually quite simple.
Hang plate with spring in frame.
Hook the tip of of a rather big screwdiver under the mainstand.
Hang end of spring right under the screwdrivers grip.
When you now push the grip down, spring will tense, slide along the shaft and hook itself to the main stand.

It's been on here before but couldn't find it

Bend spring and insert coins both side sides to elongate, fit spring and then rotate stand to extend coils for the coins to fall out.
