Endoscope, which one to buy?
« on: May 27, 2016, 01:03:01 PM »
Hi there all,
Does anyone here have any experience of buying and using an endoscope on their bikes?  I'm looking to buy one with the Amazon vouchers I got for Crimbo. There appears to be an amazing array of these for sale with very few having reviews!
I need to get one with a small enough camera to go down a spark plug hole to look into the combustion chamber etc so the led lamps would need to be good. Picture and video recording would be ideal. If anyone has used one and can recommend a model this would be good.

Hi,
I got one from Aldi a few years ago, think it was about £60 ish.  Certainly goes into even 10mm spark plug holes and has good illumination too.  Can be connected to PC for recording, but I have not needed that.  Make is Aldi branded 'Workzone'. I've used it for bore inspection, looking into sills and box sections on cars before rustproofing and even in cavity walls looking for cables and battens.

Useful but probably have improved since I got mine 7 or 8 years back.

You can pick them up for very little money these days but, as with most things, you get what you pay for !  I payed about £5 for an 'Ebay Special' from China that will allow real time viewing / recording with an appropriate app on a tablet or phone and easily fits through a plug hole and has an LED light source.  Quality is definitely good enough to check on piston crown etc, but I wouldn't want to stick it down my neck - or anywhere else in my person fort that matter.

Only been down the neck, the other end comes later. ;D That's a fun day to look forward to.

Anyway, the endoscope I bought off Amazon was £35 and is a USB thingy. Works okay but I found you have to be very close to the part your viewing to get a decent image. Probably should have parted with a bit more cash for a better one. Will find it later, and tell you the make if needs be so you can avoid them.

Thanks for the advice so far. Roy, if you can let me know the make of your one that would be good.
I have an Aldi near me, I'll see if they have anything.

Problem with Aldi is that their offers only occur once in a while, although they often come around again.
Last time I can see that the endoscope was available was August last year, when it was selling at £40.
They also don't accept Amazon vouchers .....

So Roy, as you already have a scope, if I send you the thick black rubber gloves and the Renolit Red Rubber Grease I was chasing Graham around the house with a couple of weeks ago, you can do a DIY Colonoscopy  :o :o :o. Saves a couple of hours in Hospital  ;D ;D ;D ;D

I thought that said 'deprived' Hairy, something I am definitely not. 'Depraved', yes, I would concur with that but wicked in a nice fun way I hope xxx

On a more boring note, this is the box for my rubbish endoscope. So crap it doesn't even have a makers name on the box. If you see one of these "Run Away".
