CB 400/4 Headlamp
« on: November 14, 2016, 05:23:33 PM »
I'm sure this topic has been covered before but, I can't find I anywhere.
The inside reflector on my headlamp has got quite a bit of rust at the bottom so I'm going to get a new headlamp. At present, the original Stanley Honda one is fitted but I would like more powerful bulbs in the new one, halogen maybe. Has anyone purchased one recently and where from? I have a new Lucas 7" one here but it's too big for the rim, therefore won't fit  :'( :'(
Ta in advance
Julie xx

I'll open the jiffy bag that I never got round to sending today and I'll put a bulb in with it.  It's brighter than the OEM ones. Actually, let me know what your plans are before I send it but I used a superdream headlamp from MandP.  It cost about 31quid and worth every penny.

Yes, I saw that Hairy and was tempted but, I don't like the flat front on the glass, I like the original which is more convex. I can't talk to Trig about this, the headlamp is attached to wires and he just ignores me when I talk about electrics and wiring, as you know it's his least favourite subject, so on my own with this one  ::) ::) ::)

The wires lead to a plug on the back of the main bulb, so you can't go wrong there, and the 2 wires to the sidelight bulb, even a girly SHOULD :o :o be okay pulling one at a time and putting the new bit in it's place. The flat lens on the light unit is very retro aftermarket 70's style, so wouldn't look out of place as a period modification.

The marking on the front of both units reads 'XANADU' - same unit in both cases?
The DS one looks convex to me, looking at the picture of the light unit sitting on the glass.
Only thing I'm not sure about is the lamp connector - I thought the H4 bulb used a different connector to the original. I had to change mine when I fitted the Cibie unit.

The DSS one is definitely flat compared to the Original.

I've just compared original with the M & P one; they both have a 20mm (ish) convex.  I'll still post the holder, it's been in my van all day but I haven't been past a Post Orifice.  Do you want the blub as well?

I bought a H4 53/4 inch light unit,

depending on your generator power you can fit a 35w/35w  or 55w/60w  or I think a 100w H4 bulb,

my light has a pilot bulb as well,

 I think about £15 from a local motor factors,bulb about £4
